“MSN easier than Google” makes no mathematical sense.

I hear on DP over and over again that “it’s easier to score high on MSN.” My website’s statistics are in agreement with that, but that is merely anecdotal evidence.

It makes no sense mathematically to say that it’s easier to score high on MSN than on Google. For any given keyword/phrase, there are only ten spots on the front page of Google and MSN. And an equal number of websites are competing for those Top Ten spots. Only ten sites will make it into Google’s top ten, and only ten sites will make it in MSN.

If it’s “easier” for me and nine other webmasters to gain an MSN front page ranking, then is it not therefore “harder” for all the others who didn’t make it?

easier in that msn is more amiable to scammy small-timers than G.
it's a function of its inferior ranking algos.

    msn is easily manipulated.

I think they mean that if you know basic seo you will score highly against those who dont in msn. In google it is much harder to accomplish this.

Well as many of us here believe. Google takes in one factor that as far as I can see MSN doesn't; the domain age factor. That is those domains that rank in the top 10, usually tend to be those that are older (3+ years). I have a few websites that are #1's in Yahoo and MSN, but no where's in Google. They've been like this for about a year now. I strongly believe that this is why (the domain age factor).

And last and least. YES, it is a LOT easier to rank better in MSN that in Google, because it seems that MSN counts in more SEO related factors (title, keyword density, backlinks [site-wides], etc ....)

    That's right.
Because people pay less attention to MSN then Google or Yahoo doesn't mean its easier.
There is less Black Hat SEO work and ramblings for the top position on MSN which gives in my opinion a more equal chance for fair rankings.

if msn drove traffic like google ... it would be harder as we'd all be shooting for it.

i'm thinking that the sites on g that rank high "today" aren't sites that are seo'd to death.

if you seo your site hard (too hard?) ... you'll get rankings on msn ... if you dothat with google you get docked for it.

basic seo + mass linkage (like coop/LV) = great msn rankings.

See, the feedback here is all over the map, at least in one regard:

If (as one puts it) the main algo difference is the aging consideration (on the one hand) but other people seem to believe that you optimize for different SEs differently (on the other) then the only way to optimize is based on when you build.

    Weird.

BTW, sensical or no, it IS easier for new sites to rank in MSN. Absolutely.

MSN is just easily affected by artificial manipulation. Google is less affected. Google returns more relevant results, while MSN returns the most optimized.

MSN takes any type of link, while google looks for relevance and is also much better at detecting paid links and link manipulation. Ranking well with MSN is easy - you just need a lot of links. I've never had any problem keeping high rankings with MSN.

MSN is much easier to score with after it's had some absinthe :p

I'd have to say that it's easier to score with MSN and Yahoo, we hold all the top positions for most of our keywords. The reason we manage to rank is because our competitors don't really bother with those engines :p

This chap is absolutely right. Also, Google offers top spots for money. Google is more into money than MSN for search engine placement and advertising!

well today, about 15hours ago, i hit a ton of number 1,2,3,4, and 5 spots in google for all of my keywords. It happen out of the blue, like from position 170 to #3 and so on.

My page is not even a month old yet, so i cant see the time factor of the domain playing a role

One reason it is easier is no one is trying as hard to hold top spots. How many people are screaming about MSN moving them to page 2? So you lose a sale this month.

I will continue to try to keep top spots in all 3 in case a shift happens, plus I find buyers for one type of items comes from one SE and the opposite for another site, both with some top rankings.

it's like with girls: some are easy but they're not the one, others you have to romance, be attentive, show that you mean it ... and those are the ones that are a keeper.

MSN is like a Tijuana hooker and Google the girl you'd bring home to meet mom.
