I want to build a directory, where can I find resources? i.e. templates, directory tress (so I can have a rough category tree) OR do most just develop these themselves?

wsnlinks.com has a great script. Look at all the directories and come up with your own category tree.

First find what to build your directory with, and then go ahead and try to brand it.

...or you can code it yourself, but then be prepared to receive comments like this one:

I think you copied some things from PLD :p

I found that looking in your stylesheet, and seeing similar classes. Not quite the most usual names :)

    I like it anyway :)

did you buy the full version or use the free version? What do you think. I like the script it looks like its pretty powerful. BUt I want to know if I can get away with using the free version, and if the free version will support adsense code.

You should think which category you want to build for your directory. Then you should think which name will use for it. I suggest niche directory is better than general directory. There are many goods general directory out there that meant high-competitive for you to climb up a wall. (not a mountain :D )
