Hello all, I finally got my site listed in the ODP and just a few days later it appeared in the Google Directory , unfortunately when you find the listing in the google directory it shows a rout link to the ODP in its description that points to a dead directory like this Category: Regional > Europe > ... > Christchurch > Guides and Directories so the rout is dead and it explains the catagory has been moved. my main question really is will google update this new catagory? its been around a month now with no change ? Cheers all mrix
The Google Directory was last updated 18 August 2007. The previous update was 19 February 2006. So I'm afraid that we can't expect another update in a hurry.
WOw, congrats. I am still on the waiting list or my list prolly deleted from the list. lol There are more directories i'd rather be listed in though. No Xmas miracles this year.
I think you can submit a request to ODP to move your listing to an active category, the same as you can (carefully and only for a really good reason) ask to have the description of your link redone.
If it is listed in DMOZ, then it's likely listed in the correct place, or at least in the eyes of the one that listed it there. The chances of getting it moved are slim, though I do think in this case, it's a rather moot point, as it's a matter of Google not updating their clone to include the proper category where this site is listed. As for getting a description change, the chances of getting that changed is likely slimmer then getting your site moved to a better category. Unless of course there is actually something wrong with it, like a typo. Either way though, it is in an active category, and does have it's ODP link. Everything else relies on 3rd party clones... http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Europe...d/Dorset/Christchurch/Guides_and_Directories/]
All categories are active, some are edited more often than others, but there is no way of predicting which categories they are, so there is no point on that score and a site would not be moved unless the other category was more appropriate. You can suggest that the category is incorrect by filling in an update form, hit the button at the top left of the screen in the category in which it is listed but remember editors have the final say of where they think the site belongs. You can ask for a description to be changed, but just believing that the present description has not got enough keywords or hype ( we are the best! style) will not get you anywhere and waste editor time. If you change the products you make from say metal to plastic or start a new bit of business, say you were a photographer and now you only sell pictures not take them so that the description really is not longer correct, than fill in the update form as before. I treat updates as a priority to any other sort of editing, it should be for people to tell us about dead links, changed URL's or really wrong descriptions, so I am not pleased when I get an update that says you did not say we are the greatest in the universe or that you only put stock held and did not say that we have..........and offer a list. So use it wisely, please.
Sounds like google is adding any new items in a category but not changing the categories when they are changed by DMOZ editors. Hmmm not very smart from google.
Sounds like you got it half right, many astrologers would be proud of that. Probably 6 wise men originally or even 9! There is a theory that if it had been wise women, oh well now you have me speculating
