TheGowForums.com.. Hard to understand but my adsense went through the roof with snow

Discussion in 'Placement / Reviews / Examples' started by Steam, Dec 10, 2007.

I did nothing new to the site, But my adsense went up nearly 60 cents per thousand impressions!

All I did was add a vbulletin mod. It was a java script snow. I add'd it for a little joke with the members since it was around christmas time, and then I see my adsense goes through the roof.

    Example -
    http://thegowforums.com/forums.php

I don't know what to tell you but it happen'd.

I don't think that had any effect on your earnings. Perhaps, its just a good day for you?

I believe that it is against Google's TOS to place snow near adsense ads.

Yeah I can guess. The snow keeps falling on the screen, noobies keep clicking the snow and accidently clicks on your ads.

Mind you this can lead to smart pricing if your advertisers report your site as non-performing since most clickers are just clicking for fun.

lol....I don't think the members are trying to click the snow :) It's only snowing on the forum home, not on all pages.

It might be because it makes people look around the page more because of the snow.. making them also look at the ads which they would usually automatically ignore

Your revenue went up because user will "follow" the "snowflakes" and maybe even try to click them. This gives you a higher CTR and possibly has them focusing more on the area where the ads are located.

There's no reason for it being illegal, as far as I could think of.
