What are some potential apps for Google earth other than travel?

I downloaded Google Earth onto my computer recently and I've been playing around with it. I find it to be pretty interesting, but does anyone know of any potential applications for Google Earth other than travel related?

It seems good if you're traveling, but what else it is capable of?

Track any natural disaster (strom, flood). Get satellite maps to your cell phone, Sightseeing(basic travel) , Secret service purpose(FBI), News Brodcast purpose(BBC/CNN)...and it can help you many other ways :)

Keep in mind the images are mostly years old, so tracking any realtime events in not possible. One application in the pro version is you can import/export your GPS tracks if you are a hiker or mtn. biker. This comes in very handy for me.

I've seen quite a lot companies who publish a google map on their contact page so the visitors get a better ideea of their location. Maybe they are even waveing from their headquarters... ;)

Games! Games! Games! There was a Google Risk game but it was shutdown due to Trademark infringement. But, some sort of geo based game using Google Maps has great potential to take off, especially if you can make it MMO. We've got too many projects going or we'd be on that ... as it stands now we probably won't be able to jump in for a few months...

Maybe there is some scientific value? Research?

I do agree that games would be a great idea for google maps.

I thought some area's, like area51, are blanked out. But that would be more interesting for the terrorists than the FBI :D

Those are some pretty good points. I can't wait until they get all the world's major cities put up. That will be very impressive.

I don't have the tech chops to do it, but a garage/tag/estate sale app would be great. The advertising would be ebay, local auction, local used goods sites.

It's not like terrorists couldn't find their targets without it... IT would just cost them an extra $10 to buy a map at a local book store or look up a map at any search engine. Anyway all these ideas about terrorism are silly, where do you guys live anyway. I think us who live in NY are less worried about terrorism than everyone else in the world even though we are one of the main targets always. Heh.

No, Google earth is a by-product, and now available in limited form, from spy satelites.
