-1 rep for negative rep to others?

Discussion in 'General Chat' started by Dirty-Rockstar, Dec 7, 2007.

I saw a sarcastic "trollish" post that was not helpful or contributed to the topic in any way, and it was an attack on a "stupid" question. (minds are not created equal)

I went to negative rep and it said -1 if i do this, does this go away after certain amount of posts and rep points? i dont wanna lose 1 point because i dont have much but i feel the post deserved it. is this a perm thing?

I understand the logic, but doesn't that defeat the purpose of what negative rep does? why deter people from doing it

Ya it will be permanent, but you'll probably gain it back in due time.

I wouldn't worry about -1 rep I don't see how that affects anything. If you only do it a couple times or if your on DP alot and you see alot of that crap then it probablly could build up lol

If red reps were free, then people would throw them around all over the place, without just cause. The -1 makes you stop and make sure they really deserve the neg rep. It doesn't go away, but once you build your reps up to a level that you are more comfortable with, you will find that losing the -1 doesn't bother you quite as much. :)

True...but I have like 5,000 points almost...that means I could possibly red rep 5,000 times. I only ever give a "reddy" to those who really deserve it.

Good way to explain it. Green rep for that
    ... how ironic is that?

Well, sure. Nobody is going to lose all of their hard earned rep by giving out reds. But way back when I only had 6 rep points myself, there was no way that I would red rep ANYBODY no matter how bad the post was. Now that I am sitting at 1500+, I'm willing to give up a point when I see something that I feel deserves red.

The other side of having so much rep power is when someone tries to red rep me they end up not having enough rep power to make it be a "red". Mostly they end up grey....LOL That usually is a telling point that they come from NooBs or not so "nice" members...hehehehe :D

I wouldnt be counting reps. There not that big of deal. If you show green your a regular member. I have an annoying member which dosen't want to show there name but he gives me a red rep every 3 days or so or everytime he can just because I guess he hates me lol. (thats worse then this)

I'd go ahead and give the negative rep, it's a -1 and before you know it you will have a couple green reps which are worth much more that will make up for it. There's at least one generous green repper in this thread....

Check it in your User CP. It's towards the bottom of the page, under 'Latest Reputation Received'.

The only way that you will know who gave you the rep is if they chose to sign the rep comment. Otherwise it is a mystery. ;)
