[WTS] File Hosting Site : $500+/month revenue

Discussion in 'Sites' started by HotSauce, Dec 3, 2007.

  1. #1
I have a file hosting site that I would like to sell as I don't have the time to maintain it. I have other projects that require more attention. The site is a little over a month old, and is currently getting about 2k+ uniques per day.

    Revenue
From October 2nd to December 2nd:
    Adsense - $450.93
    Widget bucks - $235.58

    Server Details
The cost of the server is $179 with 100Mbit port unmetered bandwidth. It server is an Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E6550 @ 2.33GHz with 2GB of RAM. The existing HDD is 200GB with approximately 27GB used.

    Script / CMS
I'm using a licensed version of Yabsoft's Mega File Hosting script. For those of you who aren't familiar with it, it supports multiple servers and additional hard-drives. So the system is quite scalable for future growth.

    Site URL
    theonlinedatastorage[dot]com
I chose this domain name as the key word "online data storage" is a fairly high paying keyword. Have a look at google's keyword tool and you will see what I mean ;). The content on the pages are optimized for that keyword, so I'm always getting ads relevant to the "online data storage" keyword.

    Revenue Proof & Stats
    Traffic: 0img.com/overview.JPG
    Adsense: 0img.com/adsense.JPG
    Widget Bucks: 0img.com/widgetbucks.JPG

    Price
    Starting Bid: $2,000
    BIN: $5,000

I do have a reserve in mind, and I reserve the right not to sell if I don't get what I'm looking for. If a BIN offer is made, I will include my image hosting site as well: 0img[dot]com. You can assume minimal income so I won't provide the stats, just have a look at the Alexa ranking for approximate traffic.

    Thanks :)

I think the major turn off here is the domain name length its really long.

Thats understandable, but the value is in the keyword rich domain.
"online data storage" is a high paying keyword; if you use Google's keyword tool you'll see what I mean.

It makes you money... everyone's entitled to their opinion, but I think most people would prefer making more money over having a catchy domain name for this type of site.

The traffic has not peaked. There is no such thing as peaking traffic on a file hosting site. I just don't have the time to continue promoting the site which is why it isn't increasing any more. I put about 25% of my time on this site, the remaining 75% goes to my other growing projects.
So, if you have the time you can make it grow for sure. The traffic is mostly from referring sites providing software download links. I believe that is enough information necessary for a potential buyer. Please don't ask for the refer URLs, as that would be giving out information to competitors of these types of sites.

    Thanks :)

    How does it makes 500 $ a month when it's 685 $/2 months - 368/2 months server?

that makes around 160$ a month no?

I did not spend any money on advertising so far. So there are no advertising costs. That is definitely something that can be done to increase the traffic further.

If there is no advertising so far, how do you get 2000 uniques/day?
It's quite impressive without advertising, isnt'it? I mean after only one month...

I mentioned that there was no paid advertising. But there is a promotion tactic used to get this traffic. You could easily hire someone to do it, but I have not done that, so there have been no costs for me.
I will reveal my method to the potential buyer along with other ideas I have to increase the traffic further. I'd rather not give out the information in the public because it devalues the site since everyone else would know it as well. :)

Please PM proof of revenue and traffic stats and "promotion tactics".

I don't see this site in to 50 of google for "online data storage". Does it rank for other terms?
