Overoptimization Filter? How To Recover

Discussion in 'Google' started by baretd, Dec 3, 2007.

So I think I triggered an over optimization filter on one of my sites. The site dropped from #23 to out of the top 100. What do I do? What is the best method to proceed from here?

    Thanks!

After reviewing it futher, is it possible that my site might be sandboxed?

    Background

I have started helping a company that has a pr 5 website that has existed for many years and has a good reputation for its field.

We had 301 redirected a previous site, that existed before the big merger to the new er domain (even though its existed for years also, they had them existing side by side with duplicate content). Is it possible this may have caused the drop in the rankings?

I can't really publicize the domain of my client...

But is this known to happen with redirects? I thought you were supposed to redirect from old domains that were producing duplicate content to consolidate pagerank at one domain?

How long will this take until I am back to normal? Are there any steps I can take to expedite the proccess?

Oh Boy....well.....If ure in the sandbox then in the results, it would appear right beside the cache link....supplemental results it would say......

Duplicate content is really bad these days....do 301 using htaccess for redirects to get best results

never heard of an over optimization filter, nor do I think one exists, unnatural backlinks, i.e. excessive amount quickly, can cause a trigger.

How many days has it been since you did the redirect? I tried that once and lost my ranking even after I canceled the redirect. My ranking came back in a few days though.
