you always can ask for link exchange with high PR only if your site has it otherwise go with the flow

The OP provided many good suggestions. It's important to remember that you should only link to sites with relevant content, if you get back links just for the sake of backlinks, the SEs could penalize or even ban your site.

 

Does anyone have knowledge to share for getting links from .org and .edu sites? My site would definitely benefit from such links considering my content.

 

It would be really difficult to get a valuable link from a .edu site.

Absolutely fantastic list. Kudos to you for taking the time to post that. I'm sure many people will benefit from it. Sorry to pick out the 1 questionable thing out of a fabulous post but .edu links are not worth more than any other link from a .com or .net - Thats a common misnomer, but innacurate. The reason is probably because they have tons of inbound, non-reciprocal links, but rarely link out to anyone else and have a boatload of very high quality content with tons of text-rich pages .

Although having said that, I will say I have a .org site and it does seem to be easier to rank it highly than some of my .com's etc so who knows, maybe there is some truth to it. Lets face it, we are all just guessing as to what makes the Google algo tick based on anecdotal and personal experience but this has been a much discussed issue in the SEO world and the general consensus is it makes no difference. If anyone has any solid evidence that they are in fact worth more I would be genuinely interested in seeing it for my own curiosity. But anyway, did'nt mean to be a wet-blanket. Phenomenal list and a great resource posting!

 

I don't think that the extension of the domain had anything to do with that. It's probably because of your site contents and the number of backlinks that point to it.
