Running a Rapid Share Blog / Link Search / Site?

Hi. Im interested in starting a site that posts links linking to rapidshare content that has been ripped, for example ripped dvds, movies, cds, etc. We will not be hosting any of the content or doing anything like that.

I have seen these types of sites up for sale on digitalpoint as well as other web master sites as well.

Is this acceptable? Is it ok to do stuff like that?

    Thanks,
    David

yeah, you are only providing a link to content which has already been published on the internet. If have even seen Adsense on some of these sites, so it would stand to reason there would not be a problem with it

Well, legally...you should have no problem. But you should also take note and re-read your web host's terms of service. Most web hosts have no problems as longs as you don't place any illegal files in their web server.

You should get a lawyer... here in Canada, its illegal.

Its illegal to tell people where they can find pirated software. For example, a torrent site is illegal... even if the torrent site doesnt host the files themselves... The torrent itself have no illegal files in them...

But torrent sites are still illegal and authorities shut them up often.

You should get a lawyer if you want to do that... otherwise you could be in hot water.

    My 2 cents.

I believe you have protection under the 1996 Telecommunication act which protects ISP from being punished for what its members post.

You could also claim 'freedom of speech' & 'freedom of information' because you are effectively sharing information which can be found elsewhere. The only time you would get in trouble is if you are facilitating the download itself (which in the case of torrents the trackers determine where the peices of information are coming from)

A vaild way to fight back is making a disclaimer that states that you must own the item before downloading the ripp file.

Because I believe its legal for you download a .iso of a game if you already own the game. Get what i mean? Make it like in small font :D ( I dont anyone even listens to those disclaimers lol)

i was wondering the same thing. was thinking about starting such a website. it would be nice if someone on here would post some adsense earning on such a site and other ways to make money with these sites. i download from rapidshare 24/7. lol. and wouldnt mind creating a site and sharing my "sources". i have seen such sites use sort of "middle page" before the download page (rapidshare comes up) and have ads on those sites along with popups. i hate them but obviously that is the way they are making money and who can complain when downloading something that they really want or need i mean own. hehe. any help would be greatly appreciated in this topic. any if any content of mine in this reply is not suited for the boards let me know or edit. thankx.
