I agree with all the wordpress votes. I started a new blog two weeks ago using Wordpress. In less than eight hours after my first post, my domain was indexed by google. In less than 24 hours the site was on the first page for the term web 2.0 consultants.

    Wordpress get my vote!

wordpress surely makes website rank higher in search results for a wehile because of lots of internal links
but google seems to be partial towards blogspot.. most of the blogspot blogs get pr3 really easily without efforts

    Blogspot gets my vote

Wordpress indexes faster given that it has good plug-ins. I tried an experiment and posted 2 "exactly same" articles in my blogger blog and wordpress blog. The wordpress blog indexed faster... but after 2 weeks, the blogger post has higher search engine position.

So would you rather be indexed faster or have better search engine position in the long run?

    Wordpress gets my vote too!

We not only run our blogs via wordpress, we also run our sites using Wordpress CMS and both types rank well with our SEO efforts. Obviously, You'll want to install a few of the top SEO plugins.

you can only go for blogger if you use google services, even if you have your own domain, it still hosted by google.
    That's a huge limitation.

As nishugoyal said... google is partial when it comes to blogspot... why? obviously to keep blogspot popularity.
But that's it... you put a page on blogspot and.. hurray.. it's indexed by google, and it can even pop up on a lot of searches relatively well...
but when you want real traffic... going for blogger... naah... you won't get far... google is on you then... you will never be able to make google look at your blog from the outsite.

This is too abstract, and it's a huge assumption... but google has the blogspot blogs kind of controlled, it pretty much knows how much traffic to drive into them in order to keep them atractive but allways relevant concerning the searches.
Now... non google-hosted sites... google will give your site as much relevance as its popularity demands... and if you have good content... believe me google wont let miss the spotlight if you do deserve it.
Google job is to give relevant results... if you look 'relevant' to google from the outside don't doubt google will show you up in its results.

Now for the time it takes to be indexed... in both cases you can ( more lilke YOU DO ) get indexed in the same day. If you use blogger you don't need to do anything... if you use wordpress, there is a checkbox that says: "let google, technorati, etc. index this blog" if you check that checkbox wordpress will send a ping to google feedfetcher each time you write a post. That's the way it works.

Thanks people. Now, I know why my blogger blog ranks well in google searches but not with MSN or Yahoo. I have tried adding meta tags. But, as most of you have agreed, wordpress seems to have the best seo add-ons.

I would like to try wordpress now.

    Hi All,

I have Both Wordpress and Blogger, and from my experience Blogger is indexed faster and does have an advantage with Google. So here is what I recommend: Build your Blogger Blog and Build Your Wordpress Blog equally. The ONLY bad thing about Blogger is that they can DELETE Your Blog at any time. Just be sure you have backed up your Blogger Blog so YOU don't lose all of your content. The lesson here is that You have no control over Blogger and You do have control over Your Wordpress Blog. I have had good Blogs deleted by Blogger and I did lose ALL of my content, so I speak from experience. Just keep a copy of all posts you do on Blogger!!!

Just build everyday and traffic will come...

    Thanks,

Wordpress is the best! I opened a new blog and within 3 days, after pingin the WP blog app. three times, I started getting traffic. Just around 100 UV /day, but it is a specialized blog. So it was fast and google listed me really soon.
I used the All in One SEO package. Maybe that has something to do with my success?

You can't beat some of them into submission either, bogart. ;) (Sorry, but the HTML output of some of the plugins I deal with on a daily basis is just pure CRAP.)
