trouble installing BANS

hey,

i am trying to install BANS on my host gator hosting, and i am doing everything the manual tells me to and it keeps coming up with the following error.

Could not connect to the MySQL database 'tsweight_bans', please check your database name!
(MySQL error: Access denied for user 'tsweight_ban'@'localhost' to database 'tsweight_bans'​

which is what I have been putting in, but it keeps telling me they cannot connect.

Is anyone able to tell me what is going wrong, or even give it a try to fix?

I have no experience of BANS and limited experience of mysql but I think your username and password is ok, it's the database name that is wrong.

The second line of the error message is from mysql and from my experience mysql wouldn't mention the database unless you had provided a valid username/password. If either of those were wrong you'd just get

MySQL error: Access denied for user 'tsweight_ban'@'localhost'

 

Try changing localhost with the IP address.

Noooo take the password off IMMEDIATELY!

Any experienced hacker can do harm to your account.

I can also suggest posting in the members' forum on the BANS website, they're usually a helpful bunch.

I would also remove the install.php file until to sort this out.

It looks like the server name is wrong, you should be able to find the correct one in your CP or by contacting the hostgator support.

thanks for the idea, but no, I specifically made it bans and ban

 

Access denied for user 'tsweight_ban'@'localhost', can only mean you're using the wrong password, or you're connecting to the wrong database host. Did you triple check your mysql password and verify that it's working (ala phpmyadmin, etc?). If that works, view what host it's connecting to (localhost or some other host).

I cant be bothered reading the whole thread but I had your same problem.

Search the error in the BANS members only forum and there is an alternate install file that fixes this problem.

I will not link the file directly as I know you might have obtained the software illegally so you can go to the members only forum and get it yourself.


Hope this can help (well not really cos then there would be competition... but anywho)
