Want to know the basics of SEO

I am new in SEO, I need to do on page SEO of a new site. How do I go about it?

SEOMOz articles are good, and you can search here in search engine optimization category for more information about basic seo. just read post everyday and one day you will have confidence enough to do SEO your self.

I need to know the basics and don't have too much time to read. I want to start writing the meta tags within couple of hours. Can I do this?

 

If you haven't got the time to read - why not listen to some pod-casts?

SEO 101 is good for beginners ( a search on webmasterradio.fm will find the down loadable shows!)

 

If you don't have time then you'll need to get someone else to do it for you. These things don't happen by magic.

 

knowledge without effort is not very common.
I have learnt a lot reading this forum and some guides as the ones they are recommending you.

But it is very difficult to become a SEO expert without investing time on it.

 

Even i am new to it and after reading this post got quite good advice from you all thanx will look at them more carefully now...

First of all do on page optimization then do off page optimization.

On Page optimization:
Title,description,keywords tags
alt property
header tags
navigation.
Off page optimization:
Directory submission
link exchange
article marketing
press release
Blog commenting

 

I have given the task of doing SEO for a site already. Is there any practical guidance?

 

Why has someone given you the task if you don't know how to do it? Would they ask you to wire their house if you had never trained as an electrician?

 

I have off page SEO knowledge and will learn the tricks very soon for sure. Any help will make my job easier.

 

Just spent 4 to 5 hours per day few month into this forum. You will be expert in SEO files

 

SEO it's all about reading and trying!! there's no easy way, so if you don't have time hire somebody that used his time for learning, asking and trying!!

SEO is trial and error.... Use those SEO procedures that works and discard those doesn't..

If you want to be SEO, commit yourself to the process and become a student of SEO....

Sorry, but I just don't buy that. Most of what people consider to be "SEO" is really just accessibility, information architecture, marketing, promotion, semantic Web development, usability and Web copywriting, all wrapped up into one neat little three letter package.
