Traffic doubling, earnings going down!

    SOmeone help me.

My traffic is doubling each month, yet, earnings are going down. I've had 1.5 million VISITS to my site since January 2007 (180k visits a month or so), about 3 million pageviews a month, yet, my adsense earnings seems to decrease each month. Wanna guess how much I make in adsense per month?

    $500

If that doesn't hurt, I don't know what will. My site is a photo gallery for historical photographs. Most of my audience is from the US, but quite a bit are from foreign countries. I am thinking of selling my site and just moving on. I dont' know what to do...what are some other income sources I can use besides Adsense? What is getting good word of mouth around here? YPN?

    Help!

Well my first guess photo sites dont make much money. Photo is not a high paying niche unless you talk about digital cameras, review them or sell them etc. Products get better ads than mere pictures.

I hope i lead you to a good direction. Start reviewing some digital cameras etc or talk about a holiday, travel you made around your photos to atract better ads.

What is your eCPM like buddy? Have you looked into kontera? If you're averaging $500/month with adsense, then Kontera might be able to make you at least $400+

You probably have a lot of repeat visitors that are coming back from typeins and bookmarks. They're not surfing and not interested in the ads. Have you tried ebay?

But, why would I want to use kontera if it's not gonna get me the same revenue as Adsense?

I used to make 3k a month off the site. I have not changed it one bit (maybe that's why). It just keeps dropping now while the traffic increases as well as the pageviews. As a matter of fact, last month was one of the best months I've ever had in terms of traffic and pageviews.

About 75% of my users are unique and never been there before.

Don't know what else it could be....

not the case with everyone. Currently kontera doesnt even give 5% of my total earnings for a very high traffic site. Kontera eCPM is extremely low. I guess i need to call them and fix that stuff.

Besides that kontera is prompt in payments. Definately a good co to work with when it comes to getting paid. Honest people.

You is most likely smartpriced. Your best chance of making money from the site is to go for CPM advertising and banners.

If you had a different niche with that amount of traffic, you could have made a killing with adsense.

and that never happens. If you have celebrity site, you get millions of hits but celeb ads pay crap, 1-5 cents.

If you have a finance site, great niche 30-70 cents but not that high traffic.

Of course people search for britney more than insurance :D

Why don't you email your account manager? He'll optimize your ads for you.

I also have a web site that essentially offers file downloads. The earnings are decreasing and that's because of repeat visitors (by the way, the only way Analytics or any stats program can record old visitors is if they do not clean their cookies). Try changing ad placements.
It might also be that you've been smartpriced.

    1. People like your site, they become regular visitor and develop ads-blindness, if possible rotate your ads every week.
    2. Are your ads is well positioned and well-blended?
    3. Filter your ads from displaying MFA sites

Ya, try to rank for more highly-searched keywords.
Google trends can help you with this.

Great but, i already own the search results. I'm #1 for what I want to be.

So it sounds like it all comes down to smart pricing. That's what I've been hit with. Oh well, time to change strategy!

Exactly. So let's say your adsense earnings is $25/day, now with Kontera you'll be able to make at least $40/day depending on your site's traffic.

yes , i agree with you.

and so many webmasters reported that clicks are coming from visitors not from regular readers because they know exactly where the ads are placed.

    thanks
