    they are not related. Here is what they do...

    .htaccess allows you to provide sitwide directives to the website

    robots.txt suggests to the search engines which page you DO NOT want to have indexed. Here is an article I wrote a while back about it: http://www.greatnexus.com/articles/a68.html

    .htaccess tells gives your apache server specific instructions for handling certain files and functions. For example you can password protect files, rewrite web addresses, etc.

    robots.txt is for search engines, it tells them what their allowed to and not allowed to look at.
