Evening (well here, anyways ) all, I'm thinking of starting up a small forum on my website; the website is the first one in my signature. Anyways, money is not really a problem- I'll pay for something decent (don't want to go over $200 though as I'm a broke ass student, but maybe ), however I've never setup anything like this before... any help, tips and tricks on what to do? Basically I want to setup www.theuniversitykid.com/forum Thanks
If you have a good budget, get vBulletin. If you don't want to spend anything you may consider phpBB3 (Release Candidate). vB starts at 85$ for a leased license and 160$ for a owned license. Meti
I just edited my post above, vB pricing starts at 85$ for a leased license and 160$ for a owned license. Regards, Meti
Leased = You rent a license for a year, once you passed 365 days you must renew the license, meaning you must pay them another 85$. Owned = You will OWN your license for ever, however you have access to any upgrades/updates within the first year, if you wish to extend that period you must pay them 30$ per year which is not required, but highly recommended. Hello Friends, Have a look at a new forum that we have launched in to market and would like you people to tell us how does this work a new product .... Please visit either of the link and me know the performance of this forum script http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect?simplosoft.org http://www.simplosoft.org The product is available at very low price for life time lisence , and free updates. The product is a fast developing forum in Forum Market and now getting popular with Pokers And Sport Players. With Best Regards Simplosoft Technologies
I highly recommend using a free board software until you're comfortable with the activity of your forum. No point in spending literary hundreds into a software for a community that may not work out. Though, if you feel the turn out to be positive, id recommend Invision Power Board for a paid software. It's a little pricey at $145.00 for a standard license, but definitely worth the investment.
I've always found vBulletin to be a little heavy on resources, espcially on larger communities. I find there is a lot of features that the average forum owner would never use. Though, It has been years since I've been into the administrative area of a vBulletin board, so a lot could have changed since then.
Somehow I am in love with SMF (run a few forums and they work like a breeze and its free) http://www.simplemachines.org/ However if you have the bucks then i too would recommend VB
I agree about it being abit heavy on the resources, but I think some things have been changed, and there are still lots of features that may be disabled if you wish. However, I recommend vB to almost any forum owner due to the powerful script with lots of loaded features, it is worth every penny. IPB on the other hand isin't as userfriendly as vB, things are far more complicated, at least for me. vB is much more flexible and usable. - Meti
Both vBulletin and IPB are very competitive, and would make a perfect candidate for any community. I just prefer IPB over vBulletin
I'm developing a programming site right now that will use phpBB3. That is my choice in free. If I could afford vB, I would get that. So, for free, phpBB3 and if your willing to pay $160 for vBulletin, get that. Thanks, Adam
hello friends , test and use features of simploboard i can claim that this can be much better than vbulliten much secure and more faster Regards Simplosoft
Simplosoft, what is the URL for this forum platform? I've seen some of your recent posts being the "best forum platform"? - Meti
It doesn't seem to be loaded with tons of features, so his statements are kind of in the wrong direction, simplosoft, if you wish to be in the same league as vB get a better layout, dark layouts aren't very proffesional. Also, work on some unique features, that's one way of getting users. - Meti
