My Hosting Problem

Discussion in 'Web Hosting' started by n1ck, Nov 23, 2007.

After coming home from vacation, I am notified by my hosting that my shut had to be shut down due to bandwidth usage. I am also notified that I can no longer use their service because they cannot handle that just from one site.

Now my site, is a proxy site - http:/www.goldenproxy.info. So that too is a problem because not many hosting companies allow proxies. I am looking at different hosting like dedicated but the one I saw is $80 a month.

Now I would have no problem with that except I don't make anywhere near that yet. This is my first time working with proxies so I am on my way to make about $25 the first month from one site.

Now my second thought was maybe I could just put out some money to buy a server (physically -- like have it sit next to my computer) and it would work out in the long run. But after looking at that route I have found out it would cost quite more than $80 just for the internet connection I would need.

Wednesday, which is the day my host had to shut it down, it used 98gb of bandwidth.

So as you can see I am in quite a spot, but at the same time I am quite impressed that my advertising technique did work.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Hello,

Get yourself a cheap VPS with some high bandwidth ;) Looks like that is what you need, the VPS don't have to be so very expensive when you use LXAdmin or Webmin as control panel (Which is free)

We can offer you some great deals tho at http://vt16.com/vps/ if you are interrested :) Don't hesitate to contact us for any questions.

    Thanks,
    Freddy

I've talked to some VPS companies and none allow proxies to be hosted.

What is your bandwidth requirement approximately per month?
We have a special deal for unmanaged Windows VPS: 20GB space, 512 MB RAM, 3 IPs, 350 GB per month for $49.95 BUT you pay 1 month and get 3 more for free. After the 4th month, price goes back up to $49.95.
So it's basically $12.50 per month for the first 4 months.

Let me know if you are interested

    Hi there,

Like us, alot of providers will in fact allow proxies to be hosted on VPS's. We have a VPS plan that is specifically setup to run many proxy sites smoothly. Let me know if I can help in any way. Thanks.

I just ordered a VPS from LiquidWeb and I've been quite happy with it so far.

I have 2 dedicated servers and 1 VPS now.

I strongly recommend LiquidWeb as host.

    Hi,
Mydosty.com Proxy specialized hosting plans could be the answer to your problem.
All Proxy hosting plans come with 100 Mbps port, which guarantees fast running proxies.
Cheap and quality Proxy Hosting I suggest you the Antimatter plan.

Big bandwidth usage is never a reason for a successfull proxy site. What matters most in a proxy is the quality of visitors. If the visitors are from U.S. and Europe it will give you good returns. But if the users are from Iran and Arabia, you won't even earn your hosting cost.;)

I believe that they americans or europinians do not need any proxy from US or EU.
    Maybe just temporary. IMO

Not really referring to the US or EU home users, it's usually those from the universities, schools or corporate companies that have firewalls covering every single port, except 80.
