I'm totally addicted to buying domain names.

So, I've reached step one today for this addiction. I am completely and utterly addicted to buying domain names. I mean, I will be sitting there and an idea comes to mind, and I'm like, that would make a sweet domain name.

This wouldn't be a problem, but I'm not actually DOING anything with most of them, and none of them get any type in traffic of any sort besides maybe the occasional "wonder if that domain is out there" look.

I just proved my point to myself, just now. Went over to Go Daddy to buy another one mid post. Luckily for me, domainnameaddict .com is allready taken! Phew!

I wonder, how many of us are there?

Why don't you develop your domain names then?

Not so much on the buying side (mainly because I dont have the funds for randomness) but I do have your symptoms. That is, think of something and go "hey, wonder if it's registered" on godaddy.com.
If it's not, then I'd put that aside and go think of random website ideas for it. Good thing that I'm already occupied by life, work, studying, and working on an existing website!

So yes, and no. I am addicted to checking out domain names. =DD

I am also addicted to buying them but at the moment I am trying to sell. The main problem is once you sell some you have that extra money sitting there and so many names waiting to be registered...

I think you should go to Domainers Anonymous to get over your addiction :p

I'm addicted as well, though I wish I started getting addicted in 1995, not just starting in 2007!

I was thinking of starting up Domainers Anonymous, but not too sure how much I should charge you guys to join up :)

If nothing, the best idea would be to setup self propogating RSS based websites. They make a good sum with affiliates.

    Cheers

I had this bad habit. I just used to waste my money on domains I don't even need and 95% of the domains I bought from people are lying useless and undeveloped

Used to be addicted back when you could buy domain names and pay for them later but didn't have the brains to know I could make a business out of it. Also didn't really have the brains to know the difference between a useless name and a name with profit potential so went registering a load of crappy names. Probably registered a few hundred useless names and felt that high in the moment when you get the message that the name's available. Of course you had to pay for the names by a certain time or lose them and I had no money to pay for any of them.

Nowadays my experience is more one of frustration when I need a particular domain name and it's already been registered and parked by one of those companies that buy up every name in the hope that someone will come along who needs it desperately enough to pay them $5000 for something that cost them $10.

That’s not so bad if you can afford it. Since you have them and not using them, at least park some of them, maybe you will make something small.

I would either park them, or find a simple automated content system that you can setup on them and use adsense. That way, at least you'll be making some money from them.
