Interesting article on how the weakening dollar is starting to take a bite out of business. Wake up people, the decline of the value of our currency is a tell tell sign that we are going into a very very dangerous path.

In this case the low dollar is killing the European Airbus and looks like boeing is picking up the business.

The weak dollar will help some US companies export but there aren't that many US companies positioned to take advantage.

I keep thinking some day, guru-seo will have something good to say about America.

He keeps proving me wrong though. Maybe I should give up that fantasy?

There is plenty of good about America and because I want America to be even better I focus on the things that are bad so WE can fix them. Whats good is good and needs no fixing, it is the BAD that need to be fixed so it does not affect the GOOD. Get it?

Pessimism defined, in one swoop of the keyboard.

I shudder to think how many parents raised their kids under the same philosophy. Never telling their child how good they've done, acknowledging accomplishments, positive reinforcement. Only pointing out how bad they are. It would certainly create a unique generation of people.

It certainly would. A generation of youth that actually have their parents critiquing them may spawn something like those "good 'ol days" us conservatives like to talk about.. where people took responsibility and they worked hard for what they get. It is quite modern liberal to only focus on what "good you've done": To high school dropout.. "aww it's ok Johnny at least you went to school all those years before you dropped out!" To rapist in prison.. "aww it's ok bubba atleast you didn't kill her when you were done!"

How easy would it have been if our forefathers just all became loyalists when we were threatened by the English.. "well at least we found new land and our mother country can use it for profit.. wait do you DARE say we create a new colony?! YOU'RE NO REALL PATRIOT!"

In every aspect of life there is room to improve, how is our government and country different? You must always be on the pounce with new ideas if you want to succeed.

Do you presume everyone in America lives under a cardboard box under a bridge? Heh! I just bought a new home. I have money in the bank and I work hard for the money I make. Millions of people are out shopping today in our great country here.

Currencies rise and fall. It's not the first time the dollar has been low. It may be that it's the first time during the short life of some posters here.

It doesn't really help the economy by stocking up on cheap 'made in china' goods sold at Walmart.

The economy needs more exports of high value goods. Tourism in New York is at record levels and that's some good money for New York City.

This is the biggest problem. For hundreds of years, one trend that has remained fairly strong is the fact that Westerners buy a lot of Chinese goods, but the Chinese don't buy a lot of Western goods. I mean it is funny, I read a book called the Chinese Century, where these American companies like Ford had dreams of selling millions of automobiles to the Chinese, and it turns out that their sells in China were much lower than expected.

The one thing I learned in the book The Chinese Century is that the Chinese prefer to purchase goods made in China. A smart American company would take advantage of this, and instead of trying to sell, say a Ford Escort directly in the Chinese market, they would create a Chinese front company or subsidiary to produce cars that appeared to be Chinese, but were actually American backed.

If I was the CEO of a large company, this is exactly what I would do to succeed in China. Create a company with a Chinese name run by a Chinese CEO which markets to citizens in China. But I would stay in the shadows, and the CEO would actually work for me......

The Chinese are brilliant. They use their large labor pool to cheaply manufacture products, and then export them to the U.S., undercutting American companies. Then, when American or other foreign countries go into China to set up shop and sell to the Chinese, the Chinese, who have a economy which allows for a lot of piracy, use agents to get information on the foreign companies, business intelligence which allows them to turn around and compete.

For example, a Japanese Company that sells motorcycles(I can't remember which one), set up a factory in China to manufacture their bikes. Well, blueprints from one of the motorcycles were leaked by agents working within the factory, and a few months later, similar motorcycles were being manufactured by a rival Chinese company at prices which undercut the Japanese firm.

To put themselves in an even more powerful position, the Chinese demand that their currency, the yuan, be pegged lower than the dollar, which again, makes their exports more attractive, and this is why companies like Walmart have made a killing. The U.S. has continued to try to force the Chinese to remove this dollar/yuan peg, but the Chinese won't, and because they have almost one $1 trillion dollars in their banks, they can threaten to remove their dollar reserves if the United States tries to force them to remove the peg, which means a major dollar decline in the West, which leads to inflation.

The Chinese have followed the tactics of another book I've read, called The Art of War by Sun Tzu. The main premise of this book is to "win without fighting." Instead of waging military war, the Chinese are waging economic war, and as economist Paul Craig Roberts says, they have the U.S. by the short hairs.

If the Chinese and Japanese overcome their historical grievances against each other, and work together, combining the high technology of the Japanese with the large labor pool of Chinese workers, you will have the greatest economic power house in recorded history.

    Great points!!!

My parents were very tough. I'm self aware, I read, I have strong family ties, I am fairly intelligent, I am self-motivated, and I am very ambitious.

The great author, Frank Herbert wrote in one of his books, "Discontent, is the science of man" or something like that. You get my point.

I originally lost when I was dealing with Taiwan for manufacturing purposes, because they kept making more than I ordered and undercutting me selling to my competition.

But I figured that out, and stopped making "new goods" and bought my competitors goods from another mainland factory, that copied the place he was getting his, and I undercut him, without him knowing where I got the products from.

Also, the Chinese government, being a socialist government was very poor, until they started ramping up their manufacturing. Now, Western businesses subsidize their welfare state by employing, feeding and housing people the state could not provide for, and in return, get dirt cheap labor.

The sad thing is, there was a time when people didn't buy from China because of human rights abuses, or communism, but nowadays, our standard of living is so tied to dirt cheap goods, we have no room for morality in our decision making process.

Yep, attack where they expect you to not attack, move like the mist, overcome your enemy like the water, all that good stuff.

I find it ironic that the people who invented fiat money are now using it against us thousands of years later.

Jim Rogers agrees with you totally.

Let's not change the meaning of what I said:

I have no doubt some here were raised in an environment like that. I can't, for the life of me, come to any other logic on how some people are so filled with hatred against their country and in general, everything in life. It's called pessimism. Reagan was about Optimism.

If you were raised in an environment like I describe (and I don't believe you were, as you were perfectly fine before being suckered into the online popularity of RP), please accept my condolences. However, I do believe there are some here who were raised like that.

News to me. I can't recall the last time I've ever seen a liberal (Northpointaki excluded) say anything positive about our country. Moveon.org and their treasonous comments about our men and women in uniform seem to be the standard, not the exception.

However, as I've said before, I do believe once GWB is out of office, some will dust off that old box of patriotism sitting on the top shelf of their closet again. When it comes to America, some believe patriotism has a four year shelf life.

Standard issue RP rhetoric, however, it has nothing to do with today. My Great Grandfather fought in that war. It's amazing how RP supporters like to latch onto that particular war, when *real* Americans fought for *real* freedoms. Our forefathers dealt with islamic terrorists in those days too. They didn't sit around blaming America, curling up in a ball, having huge fits over whether our enemies had all the opportunities they needed to defeat us.

Room to improve doesn't mean ceaseless criticism, absent of acknowledgments. Some people really only care about tearing America down. Simply searching the posts they start can clearly give indication of such.

GTech, it is quite the neocon rhetoric to say that whatever points i make are "RP rhetoric". You need to stop being blinded by the illusion that we are trying to "tear down this country" and let the "islamo-fascists destroy us". It is that mentality that is "tearing us down". Maybe some of us need to sit back and stop calling others 'anti-American' and think about the fact that they are VERY American. That's what i did, i was in your shoes, i had your same perspective. Patriotic? maybe, but mislead most definitely. I like to make analogies.. this whole political situation is a lot like the big medical, pharmaceutical America we have today. It's corrupt, i know first hand from that and sometimes i get these "patriotic" responses telling me how foolish and absurd i am for my views on that. Who are the people telling me that? people who may have medical problems that know they will be taking a damned pill for the rest of their miserable life and have adapted so much to their way of life that anything but medication is a lie. That's called ignorance and narrow-mindedness and people like that will have many problems in their life accompanied with a short life expectancy. I, however, actually researched everything about my ailments for more than a year and have found that the truth is soooo much different from what the medical doctors tell you. I've gotten better with no pills where the real hardcore Americans are still ill only getting worse with more prescriptions by the day. It's all about money, power, deceit and corruption in this world and if you don't think it exists in YOUR government then you need to check your facts. ALWAYS challenge authority or your LIFE will be challenged by authority.

Every issue Ron Paul stands for makes so much sense to me, that's why i support him. There's no BS when Ron Paul speaks and that's the kinda guy i want in office. It is fascism and Hitler who silenced opposition, it is TYRANNICAL to silence opposition and/or call their views unpatriotic if they are not in line with your own. Some day i think you will realize that when your sect of our party goes running off a cliff with their agenda.

"Room to improve doesn't mean ceaseless criticism, absent of acknowledgments. Some people really only care about tearing America down. Simply searching the posts they start can clearly give indication of such."

It's hard to acknowledge much of how our government is handling anything now. That's like me saying "hmm yeah the medical community may be doing someee things right..". Well the things they do wrong are much greater than what they do right so I can see why more criticism is seen than acknowledgments. The point is it needs CHANGED, how can you reward a broken system? Again i'm sure there are murderers who have helped a cripple across the road, you won't hear that on death row though.

BTW i do support everyone in our military and thank them for their service, there's a big difference between that and thanking the people who assign them new wars.

And Guerilla i can tell you were raised the right way. For the most part i wasn't, with an alcoholic dad then a divorce. After that, there weren't too many rules or enforcements. We were left to make our own decisions at an early age and did so. I had to grow up fast with my older bro and cousin.. but hell i'm still only 17. My little cousin on the other hand who is now 11 is the complete opposite. Babied his whole life by snobby parents who probably tell him how amazing he is every day.. he's turning out just as planned: one of the most ignorant, annoying kids i've ever met.

ssssay hello to the future of America!

How is it good for any American Business other then maybe gold mining? I think recognizing our mistakes and trying to correct them is very noble and Patriotic, and the opposite of USA bashing. It's USA building.

It's ok. GTech would have had James Madison, George Washington, Patrick Henry and Paul Revere hung from the gallows as domestic terrorists back in the day.

Some people grow up with freedom, and never bother to understand how and why it came to be, and how easily it can be lost. And it usually starts with war, a welfare/entitlement state and the financial debt incurred maintaining it. Just ask the Soviets.

you don't really expect some people to digest that "complex" logic do you? Most people can't think for themselves thats why the elite does it for them. Thats the root cause of the problem. It all starts will education. And we know where that one is heading in this country.

Man, I just paid for an online game in Euros, and it sucked. It is a great game, in fact one of the only games of its genre online. It totally sucks that I have to pay in Euros. The game was $24.95 before exchange rate, after that, the game is $37!!!!!!!! :(

I have to pay a small monthly membership, but this will probably keep increases as long as the dollar falls against the Euro.

It sucks doesn't it? but you know what sucked more than your $37 game? My 5 week trip to Europe this summer. You don't even want to know. But it was still worth every undervalued American dollar.
