How does a site like /http://www.mouchette.org/ get listed in DMOZ?

    http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=mouchette

Its very hard to believe with all of the good sites that have been waiting for literally years to be listed that a piece of garbage site like that could even be considered. What am I missing here?

I am not sure what your point is. You don't like art? Perhaps you don't think children should be allowed to do art? Aestheticlly would you prefer a bowl of fruit? Perhaps you would prefer to see an internet full of commercial sites selling SEO services and viagra?

Art is not important? You don't think that art (even by a 13 year old) is content. One picture tells a thousand words...

Thanks for the red rep pctech, much appreciated. Might I suggest that one who attacks the art of a 13 year old might also be fitting of the comment "retarded with your comments".

PCTech do you honestly believe that your site adds more value to the Internet than the example?

Do you honestly believe that dozens of pages with ...
    should be considered?

Sorry this is not a beauty contest where the best wins.

THE most important factor for ODP IS unique content and the site has that, so, even if you don't like the content, it rightfully has its place and enhances the category. Everything an editor is looking for.

Not my type of site, not my area of editing in the main. But I certainly would list it and I am glad someone has.

One day we will have enough editors to edit all the sites we are offered and trawl through every site on the web and list the unique contented ones. One day...

Aunt Emma's Home Made Cookie's site has more unique content than most of you "professionals" have on 10 sites, and I'd much prefer to list that one site, as having more value to the web surfer, than list 10 garbage sites about " How To Become Rich Using Your Computer Working 3 Days a Month!".

No you weren’t. You were attacking a website ( "piece of garbage site" ), and attacking the ODP for listing it.

I am glad you brought up the issue of credibility; I think yours is going steadily downhill. You are someone who charges website owners for review of their sites, yet you dismiss this site as garbage without explanation, Your site says this about artists
So you seem to have some inkling of the importance of art. I note that you are actually unable to find any websites worthy of being listed and your artists category is empty. Perhaps the problem is that because the artists are creating "for the sake of creating" they do not want to pay you money for review of their sites. Or perhaps they have paid for review and you just dismissed their sites out of hand as garbage.

This particular website (whose author is also creating for the sake of creating) seems to be a significant minor art work and features in a number of discussions and reviews (not all complementary) around the web. Rather than just dismiss the site as garbage perhaps you could explain that why in you professional opinion as a website reviewer you would not list the site.

    Yawn...Moving on... ???wtf???

You started this thread; nebuchadrezzar makes some excellent points and you refuse to follow up?

Please pctec, for the sake of your credibility, give us your review of the web site you singled out as "a piece of garbage site" if you can be so kind. Otherwise, what was the point of starting this thread? Are you biased against artists? Or is this your competitor? Normally I wouldn't ask, but in all fairness those are the accusations ODP editors get on a daily basis when they don't approve a site.

Anxiously waiting for your reply... :)

Well I was going to move on but I respect Annie so I will answer...

I don't consider a site with a flower background and a few flies crawling around art in the least. I also do not consider a painting purchased by the Canadian government for over a million dollars similar to the attached picture art either. Art, as far as I am concerned, art is something that took effort... and a lot of it. But I am sure art is open to interpretation.

The reason I gave nebuchadrezzar the rep was simply the retarded comments as follows "Perhaps you would prefer to see an internet full of commercial sites selling SEO services and viagra?" That was simply the most stupid thing I ever was accused of.

Some people are actually serious about their websites and work hard at content and promotion. Some people get frustrated as hell when they are told to submit and forget, then shut up and wait while sites like the one above are apparently enjoying the benefits of a listing.

bdw would assume I am uncomfortable with this thread now... Not at all... what I am is disgusted with the same old gang towing the party line as soon as anyone has a criticism. My point was simple, the ODP is full of garbage while others "shut up and wait" for the impending miracle.

In all fairness maybe I am totally wrong... Maybe DMOZ has a higher purpose I just dont understand.

    Maybe...

Annie, anything else you would like to know?
