Let's say for example I have a site about money. And every time someone goes to Google and types in the word 'money' I'd like for my site to be at least on the first page if not in the #1 spot. So with that said, how would I go about ranking on the first page of Google for a specific keyword for my sites? Hope I asked that right. haha.
Best method is to work on building backlinks, use the anchor text of the keyword\phrase you want to rank for. Example is below. <a herf="http://www.yoursite.com">Anchor Text</a> Code (markup):
So instead of "My blog" in your signature, write the keyword you want that website to rank high in. You will also need lots of backlinks, etc. - I'm sure there are a few guides about that on here.
I read a survey recently a bunch of university students did. They determed Google's ranking algo is based on 60% on page/ 40% offpage. Here's my Simple opinion on the order to get a good long term ranking 1) Research your market thoroughly, find out what the people want 2) Make a sound website blueprint based on intel 3) Structure your site nicely (easy to spider) and keep themes tight 4) Get inbound links from authority sites in same parent theme Context is king Good Luck H
WOW. Quick reply. About a month ago, there was someone who had very briefly mentioned to me on YIM about the anchor text being used to increase something (don't recall). I just forgot. But maybe that was what he was referring to. So thanks for the info. Didn't realize just how important those things were. Thanks a bunch, Ssandecki and Crystak. Rep given. EDIT: Homer, thanks for the additional info. Saw your post after I replied to the other two.
Hi CU, I am not as knowledgeable as Ssandecki, Crystak and Homer, but I have been where you are now before myself. You need to get some reading done, so you understand what you are doing. Try SEO Chat, they have a great big archive of articles about SEO. I found them really good when I first started out.
