Why proxies?

I have been seeing proxies everywhere in the last few weeks. I'm just wondering why 2/3 of the people on DP have a proxy website. Do they make a lot of money?

You can make money depending on how much money/time you are willing to invest. Even if 1 proxy brings in only $20 a month, scale up to 5, 10, 100 of these and you'll see the benefit. Of course hosting costs quite a bit so you need to factor that in.
Some people make $10 a month, others $1000 from 1 proxy.

This website has good information on the subject: http://buildaproxy.com

I'm giving away FREE proxy hosting. I'm starting up a business and I want to test out one of the servers and so I'm just giving the hosting away. If you're interested, please set your primary and secondary dns to:

    ns1.bestproxyhost.com
    ns2.bestproxyhost.com

and send me a pm when it's done. I'll create your account and send you the info. Please include your name and email addy in the pm.

You'll get 500 megs of space and 150 gigs of transfer/month. It's cpanel hosting.

I do quite well with proxy sites and I help others promote them via Proxy Users Network (which I moderate). Many people on the forum make more than $100 per month.

    Proxies take ALOT of time!

But maybe worth it if it pays off.

    I would recommend .info.

That is my opinion, others might differ.

They are relatively cheaper and usually proxies are found by interruptive advertising as proxies are normally blocked from school. So therefore, users might not normally recall a proxy domain for a long time.

    I use .info domains.

    Anyone differs?

You make it sound so easy. I got 5K impressions today and it's not alot of revenue.

Well my conversion rate is pretty low.

    That's the hard part

What I mean by a waste of time is, you could spent that time doing something else more worthwhile and profitable in the long run.

Keep changing domains not ips, i think schools or other filters block domains only . @ birdsq

Trying proxy stuff myself, got my site suspended cause it was getting popular too quick waiting for new server to be deployed on monday and will start with 5 proxies :)

Lets see how that goes. And it is definitely an investment at start
