    Hey guys ...

Im quite well placed for my main keywords (top 5 nearly every time), i struggle tho to be top when only using an artists name i am usually 25th or so. However if you search for the artist name - album (or like arist name album) i am placed usually first or if not in the top 5 .... So now what I ask is ... I currently have not used any kind of the H1, H2 etc tags do you think i should edit my page titles from being bold to being H1 and having the artist name in either bold or a h3 tag (not all instances of the arist name only when it benefits the reader) ... my main aim now is to rank top 5 for artist name on its own anyone have any ideas? I usually have the artist name on a page in the title, the page name, the heading of the page and 3-4 times within the content which would be about 5-6 paragraphs long .. any hints and tips for me to improve?

Yes, header tags are extremely important for SEO. Make sure you have 1 h1 tag per page with your most important keywords. After that, you can have multiple h2 tags that include other keywords as well.

Also make sure that (as far as semantics are concerned) the H1 element is your page title, with your H2 through H6 elements following in a tree-like manner as needed (like a newspaper article or an essay outline structure).

There's actually a few recent threads here about heading elements that I've posted in, and my "All You Need to Know About SEO" thread (the link is in my signature) here on Digital Point also goes into some detail about headings as well.

SE added lot of weight on text inside a heading tags so it is really advisable to enclose your keywords inside it.
That's into on-page then you can link build it using your target as an anchor for a better SERP
