Life after a hard disk crash

Nothing dreads a person like an hard disk crash , the nightmarish though of losing that valuable data always lingers in the subconcious of anyone. And when it really happens all one can do is curse him/her self for not backing up the data on disks on time , yes there are recovery methods but they are extremely timeconsuming and not always 100%. Data loss is an harrowing experience & it can drive one absolutely insane. My sleep & daily life was badly affected by it , all the while i kept on thinking about it. Its an ordeal i wish no one ever has to go through. I used GetDataBack and recovered my things, some of them atleast as its a slow process and with my p3 even more so. My advice to everyone is backup your important data on dvds / cds today , the media is dirt cheap & your data invaluable, spend that extra few minutes on the backup every week, i know i will !!

Thanks one suggestion is to get a raid card, at least put in a raid 1 for your computers, these are now so cheap. Not worth losing data because of a crash.

Always have grandmother backups of at least a weekly variety. Especially if you are carrying alot of web code and easy page building layouts.

How'd you go about repairing yours? My laptop, which runs Ubuntu 7.1, crashed last week and the hard drive does not spin anymore. Any tips on how to recover the data, besides a professional service?

It wasn't a mechanical drive failure. I had to rebuild the boot sector in Win2000.

If you have a head crash ,I'm not sure what you can do?

It's a head crash. There isn't much critical data on it, but I've lost an impressive collection of weblinks and bookmarks :D

You must be getting power surges or have a lot of static electricity. I think a flash drive would be better than trying to burn to dvd.
