Automatically indexed after first crawls?

    Hello,

this is the first time i ever build a website and I am actually doing more reading on related subjects on this forum then that i am actually working on the damned thing. :)

I just have this small question which I dont see answered anywhere else on this.
For over a week now, everytime i add some content/section to my site i submit a sitemap to my Google webmastertools account.
And everytime a nice spider comes by. Problem is: my site is still nowhere to be found on the SE. I understand that it might take time to be noticed by Google ( or another SE).
I've seen alot of threads about crawls and alot of threads about being indexed, I've just never seen someone actually saying first crawl = getting indexed.

So does being crawled not automatically mean a website gets in the index?

It might just be the case that I am utterly naive about this 'getting indexed dream', if so, please slap me wide awake,

    thanks,

    Bolk

You are correct. Just because you are crawled does not mean that you are put into the public index. That's a decision that Google, et. al. will make after watching your site for a bit and looking at various factors (links from other sites, etc).

You're right, a crawl does not mean you'll be indexed.

Rather than submitting site maps to Google, focus on building links to your site and building unique content. This is what will ultimately get your pages indexed. The sitemaps are just a tool to facilitate things once you have an established site.

Haha no problem. Just focus on a quality site, and the search spiders will eventually come around to indexing your site.

Submit your site map, do some link campaigning by submitting articles, blogs and directories and watch for the result.
