EBooks business - is it profitable?

I am planning to buy a website that sells ebooks. I would like to know if anyone here has been selling ebooks. Is it easily marketable? How much traffic and profit do you make? Is Adwords/PPC marketing absolutely essential or simple article marketing will do?

    Please advice.

Why are you planning on buying a site that sells e-books when you can start your own site and sell the very same e-books, plus more?

And, yes, they are very profitable.

Advertise them like you would with any other product out there.

    Well theres several ways.

Personally I can sell E-books and make up to $200 profit in a day, but its how you do it, where to market, how to write a killer ad etc...

I would say that the market is saturated but theres potential. JUST focus on a niche....make sure it gets searched a lot of times and then introduce a product...for that niche..

It will all depend on what topics your ebooks are about. I would suggest you separate your ebooks by topics so you can focus on specific keywords for each topic.

There is money to be made with ebooks if you take your time and market it well; anything can be sold well if you target the right audience.

Perry, its a OSCommerce script that comes with a lot of ebooks. I may add or remove ebooks later on. So, I thought I could get started rightaway with it.

    @Others
Please do keep writing your opinions. Is PPC advertising the only way out?

AdWords and other PPC type avenues are ok but I wouldn't rely solely on them alone.

    Agree with Perry, why buy?

save your money for your marketing campaign.

There are so many ebooks site that allows you to join and create your own mall. Just join them, and then start to promote.

A suggestion, get a domain, then use the domain as a cloacking tool to your site. Promote, when you really earn enough money, then start your own, using the same domain.

here is one of the site you can join for free.

    The 7 Dollar Mall.
    Hope this help.

Thanks for the wonderful post mokmeng. I would really like to test the waters with these 'mall' ebook sites.

PS: I guess you are not supposed to provide affiliate links on the forum posts..

If you actually try, it doesn't really matter what method you use to market ebooks...as long as you are good (or have someone who is good) at making ads/promotional material.

Personally, my biggest success with a single ebook was making 2500 flier and distributing them around my local area...at the post office, mall, bank, atm's, etc...it was a 'make money online' ebook that i bought for $2 with resell rights...

I sold over 150 copies of it for $20 locally...after costs for fliers, and gas...I made about 2900 in 2 weeks...you just have to be creative with ebooks.

(p.s. mokmeng...i'd remove the affiliate link, and then read the rules of the forum)

I think it is profitable if you market it well but primarily if you are in a niche that no one else is in. I think I speak for a huge group of people when I say that i'm tired of seeing ebooks on how to make money online.

I'd just like to point out here that i agree that market (online) is oversaturated, but if you take your sales to the offline market and promote making money online...it's still VERY profitable...

Article Marketing and PPC are both a MUST

But start with PPC if it doesn't work, article marketing won't do much better
