That's why I asked for some experiences about this from other co-op/dp members.

as far as donating to charity, consider me a charity case ;)

Seriously, if you want to donate the extra weight to a charity site, just do it. Shawn did.

There is nothing in Google TOS says that links to your site can hurt, but what mentioned is that shady and tricky techniques and linking schemes will. Also they say that FFA networks won't help as much as spam your email account, but nothing says it will hurt. Also Matt Cutts never said that links will hurt, but noted that links from irrelevant sources won't help, he said they can identify advertisement, purchased links and link exchanges.. What can hurt is LINKING TO bad neighborhoods or spammers.

It seams to me that google devalued a lot of links during the Jugger, may be a lot from co-op too, but if your site is still out there and you don't do spam - that means you're not penalized - just not all links count. At the same time Y! and MSN don't mind links and like coop a lot.

Exacyly, I 100% agree with gemini. No links hurt, they may not be helping, but should not be able to hurt, afterall a website can not control who is linking to them.

I think the quality of your links overall can hurt (or help).
So if all you've got (or 99% of it) is co-op, you may not do so well.

I think there are link that help and don't help. Like links that drive traffic through and don't. If you're paying for an ad and it doesn't generate clients - yes it hurts your budget.

Overuse of co-op has been linked to being banned from Yahoo. I have seen 5examples where this seemed to be the only cause of being banned. Before the sites were banned they enjoyed a run on Yahoo though...

My thoughts are no search engine would be stupid enough to ban on links, else everyone would be pointing at competitors. However in my opinion Yahoo have done some things in the past I'd certainly consider stupid, so nothing is out of the question :D

There's a billion factors out there, how can anyone come to the conclusion it's the co-op?

I'm not sure what you mean, but watch blog spammers cycle thru the serps all the time, it would appear that they get penalized by their links,

What I mean is, how would an SE know if a competitor was intentionally throwing links to someone else's sites? I mean, how on earth do they know if that site is theirs, or someone else's?

    Shawn,

Did Google sign up for the Coop?
I just saw a reference in the Coop for the term "Search Engine" and it put references to www.google.com

Or is that someone just screwing around?

I used to have a lot of weight, but I recently sold some of my sites. I believe the buyers are still using it the way I had them setup. My experience has been that throwing too many links too quick causes problems, so I throttle my weight to the few sites I still use the coop to promote.

Apparently throwing massive links at google.com doesn't seem to trigger any filters on itself. One standard for them, another standard for the rest of the world!

Yes, but on the other hand, MSN and the other search engines I believe have Google filtered out because they don't come up at all for Search Engine in MSN or Yahoo.
