The funny thing is you can probably learn everything in his book by reading all of his blog posts :)

So in that respect, if you value his information think of the books price as a donation if it makes anyone feel better.

Since he offers a money back guarantee, I will be purchasing it, and I feel it wasn't worth it I will simply ask for a refund. But after all i have read about it, I don't think I will be disappointed. And for those of you who would not buy it because the information can be found for free, I think it is worth the $79 to have everything in one place and the junk filtered out. I am no seo expert, and if I were searching for the information for free, I would not be able to tell the difference between junk, and good SEO techniques. Thanks again for all of your opinions.

Actually, it doesn't. Only the "tricks" used to game and manipulate the search engines change constantly, and that's because the search engines are constantly working hard to crush those who use those tricks so that the sites which are naturally optimized and actually relevant to what people are searching for can naturally rise to the top.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Focus on the fundamentals (which rarely change) instead - afterall, which would you rather do: work on your site constantly, or have your site constantly work for you?

The book is a great primer and is usually updated on a regular basis for free for those who've already bought it.

I have purchased the copy of seobook, the content seems good and its OK for beginners but not for professionals and the rules and the methods in seo are frequently changing and it has only the basic knowledge.

After purchasing the seo book, then i realised that the information is all available on web.

Generally I recommend the book by Aaron as its a good starter. Its also updated on a fairly regular basis. As many people have said blogs and forums are updated quicker, and for free. I recommend reading blogs and forums, but a good solid grounding is needed to understand the fundamentals of SEO.

It's due an update, or so he said on his blog.

I bought it, and as I read it I made notes of what I should check on my blog to make sure I was doing what he recommended. I should re-read the section on AdWords, as I've started to dip my toe in the water there.

If you are planning on using AdWords to do promotion, I would strongly recommend the book!
If you want a good background to SEO, I would recommend the book. For just that aspect, I would say I didn't get value for money, but I didn't think it was so bad that I could really ask for my money back.

It was more of a knee-jerk reaction.
I didn't say you slammed his book.

The OP specifically asked those who purchased and read the book. As the saying goes, don't knock it until you try it.
Too right its a shame. Just because he can delivery his work via electronic format doesn't mean he should be seen as a standard e-book seller which is usually done by people who haven't actually read his book. A reason for my knee-jerk.

It is a good book on SEO. Aaron has stated that he would update the book, but has not come with it. May be he's busy with his marriage proposals.

It's the very first SEO book I've read and I haven't looked back since then. In fact, I even gave away a copy to educate my readers in a blog contest. Since then, I've been trying to make it a bit more affordable by offering a $10 rebate on the SEO book if readers buy through my referral link. I figure its a win-win situation as more people become aware of SEO and its importance in business online.

While I agree that fundamentals don't really change, search engines constantly tweak their algorithms and search engine results shift on a regular basis. Staying ahead of the game doesn't always have to mean you are using deceptive tricks to manipulate search engines. It can be something as simple as knowing which relevant and useful links to build for your site or using the right tags. Of course, SEO best practices will always remain the same for the most part - to create a useful site for users. However, SEO wouldn't be such a huge industry if it was really just that simple.

I think the book is certainly a good read for someone serious about learning the basics of SEO. While it's true that most or all of the information can be found on the web, there is so much bs posted on forums, that you can get a lot of bad information while getting the good "free" information. The SEO book hasn't been updated in a while, and supposedly it is in the process of being re-written now. While updates are free, I would probably hold off reading it until it has been updated as SEO has changed since the last update.

Don't get me wrong, I do agree with you on that. As you've probably noticed by now, my posting style leans towards the casual (not to mention conversational), which can cause points like the one you made to be lost in the translation.

One of my main beefs with SEO though are people abusing it for temporary gain, and is something I'm silently crusading against (as you've probably noticed as well).
