Should I stop linking to pharm sites?

Right now in my link directory I link to a lot (~50) pharm/viagra/etc. sites. I did this initially because these sites with high PR would link to me when I had none. I still find myself linking to those with PR > 3 with a topic specific link directory. My site is health related; however, it is a type of disorder and really has nothing to do with an online pharmacy, viagra, cialis, etc.

Should I stop linking to these sites now that I am established (PR 5), should I get rid of the links I currently have? I am in the sandbox, but #1 for allinanchor and gradually moving up the SERPS (#90 as we speak).

What do you think I should do so I rank higher? Is it that dangerous to link to these types of sites even if they are established and have high PR?

You must understand first that PR has no longer the importance that it once had.

There are many examples of PR0 sites higher in the SERPS than PR4,5 or 6.
So the PR is not what you should be looking for. It is an absolute fallacy that you should be.

That being said it still seems to be the "currency" by which people gauge "things"

However, you should be looking for a spread of anchor links - how you do that is up to you

 

I don't think it is the pharmacy links that have you in 90th place. I have a Holistic Learning Center that I'm working with that is #1 in allinanchor for a specific keyword phrase, but only 173 in the SERP.

Look at the experience in the McDar experiment. Are you using the coop ads plan?

 

what exactly does SEPRS mean? i know the first 2 letters but after that it gets blurry

You should link out to whoever you want to link to.
But I wouldn't create a link farm, linking for the sole purpose of linking and all.
If you were selling toys for children, I'd probably avoid porn and pharm sites. If you want to rank well for computers, than a whole page of outbound links naming keywords of all hot prescription drug names wouldn't get you too much further than you already are. Websites about drugs with a link to your site isn't all that great either. Especially when it is burried 3-5 pages deep.

 

ok i see now, thank you for clearing that up. i never am sure of the instant message IMYO phrases sometimes either, alot of them i know, but some i just wonder about what they mean

 

I disagree that links from websites about drugs won't be helpful. I mean in your sig you have a link to sexy lingerie but this web site is not about that! Still I bet you see this forum showing up in your backlinks sometimes...

That doesn't mean I suggest linking out to many unrelated sites (a few should be no problem or the link coop wouldn't work). Or if you're going to do it, go all the way; if you ahve a computer site, a directory of viagra sites for computer geeks who need help in that area because they don't get enough circulation...
