My greatest idea yet...please review! Bum Story!

Hello everyone. I came up with a decent idea. I like to be funny, and people at times tell me I'm funny (I'm a male teenager). My idea was to set up a fiction blog/story about my daily adventures as a bum. I'm not really a bum, but I figure if I can make a funny story, people will check it out everyday to read my updates. Therefore, I started up www.bumstory.com

I bought the picture of the bum, and made the header myself (not too graphically oriented). Please check the site out. Be sure to read 'How I Became A Bum' and 'The Fund' at the top right of the page. Hopefully this site can make me $1,000,000! I find this to be an interesting twist, it's like million dollar homepage but also very different.

Please let me know what you think of the site. I'm going to float a 200x200 adsense ad in the left of each post, too, but I want to get all the feedback I can. I'm also going to be looking for link partners, so if you've got any bum friends, let me know!

It really doesn't make any sense, and I doubt you get anywhere near $1,000,000 with content like that.

Why the hell would a bum blog about his life on the computer he doesn't have, with the internet connection he can't afford?

So let me get this straight....

You sit in your warm, cozy house, that your parents pay for, on an internet connection your parents pay for, eating food that they pay for, writing about a life you don't know or understand - only to make fun of somebody you see as less than you in this world. And beg for money.

    Classy.

    Public library?

I'm not attacking anyone. It's all just humor. I'm not begging for money, all money will come from Adsense.

Please tell me how many bums you have seen at your public library.

    I'll share the number I have: 0

Actually, to reveal some plans, I am going to have posts like 'I am writing this from a guys laptop at Borders. He went to use the bathroom. Hopefully I have enough time to write this!'

Isn't there an audience for everything? Pornography is tasteless yet look at the numbers for that...

A lot of libraries are full of bums actually. I used to live in Lexington and there are always homeless people hanging out at the library and washing up in the bathrooms. The library staff try to keep them 'run off' but they continue to come back.

The same is true in Dayton Ohio and I would assume in any larger city.

Do you realize that people live like that every day?

You have no idea of what living on the street is like.

Your post seemed to be a pointless rant about nothing that no one relates to.

It's serious, not anything to joke about.

Maybe you shouldn't submit them for review then. If you're going to create offensive (and frankly, not funny) content, then don't expect good reviews.

    But I'm done arguing.

    Hello Twan.

I'm sorry but I don't agree with a blog of this sort. I work with homeless people on a daily basis and it is difficult for them to find work... because they have no permanent address.... this means that they can't get a phone call for an interview.. this means they have no running water to get ready for an opportunity... this means that they have to do the best they can for food or shelter... and the problem is... they have to choose between food and shelter... if they choose shelter... than they have no food... if they choose food than there is no shelter...

I think this is a good time to share your learning experience about homeless people.... it is a good time to share what your visit is like with them... where they sleep... what they eat... what they appreciate... and how it is... to hear perceptions... you can impersonate a homeless person in real life... and share on the blog what your experience was like... you can share how people treat you... that would be an interesting blog!

then you can use your fund... to help those in need... these are my suggestions.... I do hope you take them into consideration... I will look forward to updates...

    I hope this helps you.
    Respectfully.
    Lhlalyam

Twan is just stretching his creative abilities. Quit attacking the kid for taking a risk already...fraud! That's a hoot... (Riddlemaster)

    Commentary
I wonder how many people told Robert Mapplethorpe to pull that thing out of there, and to stop taking pictures. Or how about telling Hollywood to stop making movies like Trading Places or that lame movie Down and Out in Beverly Hills with Nick Nolte and Bette Middler about "what happens when a dirty bum meets the filthy rich."

    Review
Twan, you need to work on your creative writing. You also need to work out the plot - build up the plot for that matter. I think your idea is not new, but not bad. It is plausible for an educated person with drive to wind up homeless and seek the release of a diary to deal with his/her situation. It is further plausible that the person in question would be able to use a public computer and internet access. It is plausible. You just need to "craft your craft" in such a way that people - like the ones above me - stop questioning your story and lose themselves in it...then you are writing. One last nugget of positivism...do what you love and the money will follow.

There is this thing called a blook. It even has a yearly award ceremony. Maybe you could look into that.

Good luck with your endeavors. I wish I had the drive you have when I was your age. I was too important then...
