    get more links.

BTW... Google only shows a sampling of backlinks.. use Yahoo if you want a better idea of what you have.

google shows the least amount of links, msn probably shows the most back links.

Start writing some content that people will want to link to....thats probably the best way to get BLs. :)

    focus on these ff things:

    forum participation thru your sigs.
    articles & directories submissions
    trade links with related sites.

and wait for next ibl update by google. you can also check your links monthly on Y & M coz they are always updating a sites reported number of backlinks.

don't forget articles and offline marketing so others with blogs will link to you (note that links on comments do not work!)

One thing that wasn't mentioned was press releases. If you are in a line of business where it is appropriate to do a press release, I have found that they can produce a greater number of backlinks than an article submission.

If you enclose your domain in quotes and search google on that it looks like you have several hundred back links rather than just 4 back links.

    e.g. "www.my domain.com"

In google we can check the backlinks by searching for 'link:yoursite.com'.
it is the same way in yahoo & msn ? Or is there any difference?

Google doesn't show all backlinks to a site. Instead, it shows only a *sample* of them. Your best bet is to use http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/ to see how many sites are linking to yours. IMHO, it is better than using link:www.domain.com query at Google.

Now that you get the point why you see only a few backlinks to your site on Google, it is time to learn how to increase your backlinks. There are so many different ways that you can use to do the job. Randfish has written an excellent article Advanced Link Building Strategies at http://www.seomoz.org/articles/advanced-link-building.php which discusses 15 unique methods for building links on the web. It includes detailed instructions, examples and links to sites/pages that can assist your efforts. It is a must read in order to build your link popularity.

    Good luck with your site...

My youngest site has 1 backlink. Yahoo says my oldest site, founded in May of 1995, has 5,137 inlinks and 89,705 pages linking to it. Google reports 268.

yes, that's true! Why is it so? When I search google for "link:www.keralaclick.com" it returns only 11. but if i search "www.keralaclick.com" (within quotes) I get 129.
