Enough of the Bush threads/namecalling exercises. Who was you favorite U.S. President and why? As soon as we have 10 ... there will be, you've guessed it: a poll!
I nominate Ronald Reagan btw (if you have something against him, please hold your peace until the poll is up :) )

It is difficult to say who are the best but Bush certainly qualifies as one of the worst. :D

Aside from him, I'd say Clinton simply because he got away with getting blown by his assistant...damn him! lol.

Wow, what a difficult question to give a definitive answer to as there have been some really great ones, each in their own right and time.

If I had to narrow it down to one, I'd have to say Abraham Lincoln for the sheer fact that he faced great challenges, opposition and adversity with calculated determination to hold the Republic together. He was not the simpleton that many mistook him for, which was probably one of his best assets.

For example, when he was invited to speak at Gettysburg, it was only as a matter of protocol. The feature speaker, Edward Everett, spoke for nearly two hours. Then Lincoln was introduced and spoke for barely two minutes. Much of the press that followed labeled him as a Southern bafoon with no education or grasp of the situation. However, Everett sent him a telegram the next day that said (paraphrasing) "I wish I could have conveyed in two hours what you were able to say in less than two minutes." And now it is one of the most quoted speeches in U.S. history.

William McKinley---(January 29, 1843 – September 14, 1901) was the 25th President of the United States . He was elected twice, in 1896 and 1900, but served only part of his second term, as he was assassinated in 1901. He is remembered for presiding over a major period of expansion in U.S. territories through conquest, which included the annexation of Cuba, the Philippines, and Wake Island following the Spanish-American War, as well as the annexation of the future U.S. State of Hawaii.----Puerto Rico as well---(Wikopedia does s^ck)

Second choice is Woodrow Wilson---for purchasing the Virgin Islands from Denmark.

Talking about a president who is in power and causes death, destruction and erosion of civil liberties has much more relevance to what is happening today than talking about who in theory were best presidents in the past.

Past history can not be changed, future history can be changed. ;)

How come Jefferson isn't on the list yet? Or Washington?

I'd throw Roosevelt (teddy) in there.

For the president most likely to throw a kegger, I'd go with Andrew Jackson.
