SEO is up to Google now

In the past, people exchanging links with specific anchor texts dominated the top 10 search engine ranking. Now it's really up to Google if you want to appear in the top 10.

I believe that it's not hard to appear in the top 10 list. But before you want to position yourself, check out your competition, age of the link, etc...

If you want to be an instant hit, try targeting less popular articles

Here are some points which I think is important

    1. The first few words in your title
    2. Your domain name
    3. Your category of the article
    4. First few words beginning of your article

I don't really think PR is the main factor when it comes to search engine ranking...

    What do you think? :D

I put resources on michaelwoo.net cheers!

SEO is not upto google, its upto YOU. it is the algo which is controlled by google but SEO has always been upto webmasters. it used to be easier before to get a site ranked on the top which is a bit challenging these days. but that is due to lot of people abusing the system and google had to update their algo to stop people from abusing so that legid sites have better chance of being on the top.

That said, circle jerking doesn't work well anymore.

I suspect google will be putting A LOT more weight on the text around the anchor text in future. That way footer links/blog roll links won't be worth nearly as much and will become pretty much useless.

Not good news for free theme designers.

Chewyshone is right. If Google isn't already discounting heading and footer links ( they probably are ) they're working on it.

I completely agrees......Its indeed much harder now...

1)Get a good site with good content and SEO
    2)Get site into search engines
3)Market it well using articles and viral marketing
    4)Undertake a good links strategy
Its about to take 1 - 3 months to get into the major SEs and then about over a year or some over 5 digit investment to get to first page...

I don;t think it's that hard to get in Top10 for a decent long tail. Anchor text and good On page SEO will do it..

With long tailed keywords, one could make into the top 10 of google, if the competitive is less than 10000.

And long tail tends to be higher "quality" traffic to boot.

PR is not a main factor in rankings. In fact, in some cases it is not a factor at all. Toolbar PR is only updated every so months and can easily be manipulated by search engineers without affecting rankings.

Yeah, I believe 5 to 6 months can be a goal to get it into the top10. Good SEO and On-page optimization is really a factor... :)

I am building websites for the past 2+ years and though by any means I can't call myself SEO expert, I can say the most important SEO combo for your site is Title + URL + H1 Title Tag + Keyword Density.

Forget about Meta tags and all other things as they have lost there relevance. Make sure the URL has the Exact matching keyphrase and title and you will immediately get into Google and MSN. I also feels Google give more weightage to H1 as compared to MSN.

Yeah you're right. But it wouldn't hurt if you put other meta tags. Remember that Google isn't the only search engine... :) Some search engines I guess "still" considers other metas. [IMG]
