Content rich directories

We all agree that directories need more content than just a list of websites to be useful for regular visitors.
I am trying this for rakCha, I just started adding content to the Humor category: http://www.rakcha.com/recreation/humor/

If you want to get LOCO on the content start a forum and hang out in it by yourself forever until someone decides to join then keep going until you have an active forum with new content being added daily.

 

A forum is great way to add content but only for niche directories like yours. Also articles in separate blogs is cool but embedding the content inside the categories is more interesting I think.

 

It is more interesting but where are your listings?

 

College humor is the listing, still an empty category...

 

Would the listings be below? Also can you insert hyperlinks in the content up top??? If You are reading this An0n and know how to implement it send me a message

Great thread I've been thinking of doing this forever but not enough PHP prowess to go at it alone. Spend 1 weekend listening to music and smoking way more then healthy but at the end have way cooler cats... Worth it

I chose to place the listings in the sidebar to give better exposure. they obviously can be placed below the content.

To allow html tags in your categories descriptions simply replace {$description|escape|trim} by {$description|trim}.

in the default theme this is placed in header.tpl

 

I notice a lot of youtube vidz end up dead though, do you guys regularly check to see that the vidz are still working?

I'd assume yes but no pain ... no gain.

 

Yes it is time consuming but very rewarding I guess especially with unique content. You don't have to do this for all categories at the same time. everytime you find something interesting you add it to the appropriate category. My idea is to make every category have the content the user is looking for, and then the listings are like related websites. Takes a lot of time to do, but I am not in a rush

It looks really wonderful and it takes effort to do so.
I will do it for my directories one day when I have time.

 

My niche directory will be loaded with relevant content. It will probably be more of a resource site for the industry and a place to hang out for enthusiasts.
