Links from sitepoint.com

All the member pages shows PR7, but are they really? Nice to link from there if it is so, but it is something strange there.

Yes because the member pages are still listed under sitepoint.com, sitepoint has the page rank of 7, so every page attached to it will as well. Having your link in the signature will produce the same result.

 

No, a link from sitepoints member pages is good for almost nothing. Its not real PR7, maybe it is a frame or something.

 

You have to be logged to see the profiles. I don't think google bot can register and login

 

How can Google give PR to the page then if it cant see the page?

 

Google Bot is capable of getting past pages that require to register.

 

Google cannot get past the pages which require registration, what you do is u allow all members to have access to that page

 

and you really think that sitepoint wouldn't have the .htaccess set to block bots from member pages ? hmmm

 

Sitepoint forums have huge number of visitors. Unfortunately they don't have that many useful categories. Also I felt like they are little greedy.

I have noticed that pages having ? + other variables in the url do not show the true Page rank. There's a bug in the Pr algo for this thing. It shows the PR of the main url of the page which comes before the ?

Many link sellers use this trick to sell links from such pages.

 

Few clarifications:

1) Google can not login. It is treated as a guest on forums.
2) Regarding variables in the URL, if there are some parameters such as session id, that will not show true page rank, but if you remove user/session dependant from the URL, that will show true page rank.
3) Sitepoint member pages are not in a frame.

The guys are correct, no link juice is passed from SP pages, try searching for links from SP sig's as well, you'll not find them ... shame

 

Sitepoint.com/memberprofile will be pr7.

You can check only subdomain PR, means profile.sitepoint.com

 

damn, i though i had 4 nice PR7 links there for a second :/

 

Besides, all the links in the profile are nofollow.
