    Please make sure that you are seeing change on your site PR in between time span when Youtube had PR3 and PR8.

    i had a 2 week old site that jumped straight to PR 5. But PR doesn't matter, it really has little effect on the SERPS.

    well digg helped, site got on frontpage - but my host collapsed and people buried it..so in total it was on the frontpage for probably 15 seconds (seriously). I got 1-2 good backlinks, that's about it - literally only 2 backlinks but they're from some really strong sites (something like pr 4-5 sites) ..not sure how it works but pr 5 from that..it's odd but I'm not complaining...although as I said - it doesn't help in the SERPS.
