How I Squeezed An Extra $3,000/month Out Of My Sites

Just did a new blog post, thought I would share the steps I recenly took to tacking on an extra 3k/month income:

    1. Replaced my own custom search script with Google Search box.
    2. In-text Ads - Integrate with Adsense
    3. Low impression Adsense Channels - Tweaking the forgotten channels.
    4. Expense monitoring - Are you getting what you are paying for?
    5. New Newsletter service - Feedburner is free!

    Congragulations my Friend ;)
"I ended up cutting my campaigns by 70%, saving me $500+/month. From my perspective that is like making an extra $500/month."
I agree with you. Web is full of free marketing oppurtunities. Especially, if you are an experienced webmaster, you shouldn't spend your budget for ppc s i think.
    Who use PPC advertising?
Mostly, companies who want to realize an investment on web industry.

    Thanks for the info!

In-line text ads didn't work out for me on my 2k unique visitors a day site, I guess you need more visitors for it to work (I used Kontera).

I've also never invested in PPC campaigns, I've used some time limit advertising on related sites though.

hey, but how much were you earning before? i mean if you were earning 30000$ and now you earn 3000$ more thats different from earning 10000$ before and now earn 3000$... in percent, just to have an idea on how much extra money i can make.

I wonder why nobody answers the questions straight. If you guys make a claim - Stand by it :)

How many unique visitors was the question.
Are your in-text ads spread across many domains or just one?

My site gets about 10,000 uniques per day, about 30,000 - 40,000 PVs/day

My in-text ads (Kontera) are on just this ONE site.

as for my "claim" - Shoemoney posted a pic of my Kontera earnings on his website a few months ago:

Great information. All very good tips. I just added Google search to my sites and it started paying off right away plus is good for my visitors. Also going through my old pages and optimising them with what I have learned since they were originally made. Good post :)

    Thanks for the inspiration.

I've never liked the look of Kontera on my pages, but after reading your blog I have decided to let my visitors decided what's worthwhile. I have expanded the use of Kontera and will see what happens over the nex couple of months. :D

Another tip on the Google Search box... We used the embedded search results page (iFrame technique) so the results page looks just like our site.

That gave us the best integrated look, and the best CTR on the ads. We used a blended ad link color so the ads matched the results. They are separated of course by a box, but they are consistent with the search result links.

I was the same way at first. I thought they looked too spammy. But then I found out you could control where they show up on the page (using div tags) and how many (you can tell them via email). So I limited my to just one area and also limited the number of links that show up.

In the end, some users actually found them interesting and less annoying than the big Google block I have embedded in the text.

A win-win. The only hold-up is the payout. If you generate decent traffic, and are giving them decent clicks, try to negotiate a better payout.
