I notice John Scott (v7n and Bluefind) has another directory he is promoting on Jupiter Web (internet.com): Seven Seek.

Apparently it is a project for the future, developing it as a portal perhaps.

Yeah, SevenSeek is more of a long term project and, as Dominic mentioned, it will be a lot more than a directory... it's being developed as more of a portal site...

John has sold his rights to Bluefind but remains on "the board" Question I have and concern how much will bluefind suffer in long run with out it being John's primary focus?

While he's not the owner anymore, he's still more or less running the show, from what I understand. They're still running campaigns on the internet.com network, so I don't think PR or anything else will suffer in the long run. SevenSeek is promising to be several tiers above, though...

That will take a while, I'm sure... I think 8 is a good starting place, though. ;)

I wouldn't worry too much about Bluefind, John seems to put a pretty high price on his own reputation so would be very careful no doubt to ensure they followed through as his name is still very much centre stage at Bluefind.

As for sevenseek, it will be interesting to see where he heads with it. I don't think the steps above bluefind simply ment PR, I'd say he means the profile / marketing and purpose / varied focus of the site.

    Exciting, lets see what happens.

Yeah, it's going to be built into quite a big site - I'm excited to be a part of it.

    Just out of curiosity..

Could someone identify a category specific search term for which the directory (bluefind or seven) actually ranks (as in the top 5) ?

I'm not taking the piss, it just seems to me that these directories hinge on PR. I've a suspicion that without the PR (or implied PR by way of paid BL's) no one would bother.

    Am I wrong ?

SevenSeek is still too new, and certainly PR and implied PR has helped the initial large growth of the directory. I do see some traffic from BlueFind, though less than 100 visitors/month - but directories take time to build up. It's up to you whether or not you think investing $50 in the backlink is worth it or not. That being said, BlueFind is really less than 6 months or so old, and it is somewhere around the 25th spot for the term "web directory" and climbing. I don't expect SevenSeek to be an overnight success, but it is already growing, despite the fact there is still no PR there. John Scott has a reputation of doing things well on the internet, and for a lot of people, that is enough to justify the $50. For others, it may take a while for him to prove it to you.

$50.00 is a good price for what he is offering. I got listed for $40.00 when it first came out.

If you submit to "paid inclusion" directories early on there is some benefit, often the price and sometimes placement.

I listed a couple of my sites on Bluefind and SevenSeek. Every bit helps when anchor is such a big factor in G.

I think your suspicion is entirely justified. Most of these directories do hinge on PR to a great extent. If they had PR0, submissions would probably drop to zilch.

Would you pay for a PR0 listing with a redirected link? I woudn't... But here in Portugal some people do that... :/

Anyway, i'm very happy with BlueFind, as helped me in link popularity!

I was wondering if it is worth paying the fee to subscribe to the site. Will it guarantee me a higher search engine ranking?
