SERP vs. Traffic

Is there anyone out there that knows a "rule of thumb" for the amount of increased traffic for higher SERPs?

For instance: If I am on page 3 of Google and move to page 1 for my keywords, what kind of traffic increase would you expect?

    Would it tend to be exponentially higher i.e. the top 10 SERP would get 90% of the traffic, 10-20 - 5%, 20-30 - 1%, 30-40-.01% ?

I have no clue, but I'm sure someone with a lot of webmaster experience has some kind of idea.

    All comments are appreciated!!;)

This is one of those threads everyone will have an answer for. It depends on a lot of factors, below being a few of them..

    • Keyword Inquiries Per Month
    • Relevant Competitor Sites
    • Type of Content

The most traffic is usually from the first 10 results, majority of it goes to the top 5.

The Rule of Thumb is 80% of the visitors don't go beyond first page. :)

Unless they are not upto some RnD work.

    Cheers,
    Cybotrix :)

There are stat for this even though it varies from one term to another.
    The 1 place usally get about 40%, 2nd 20-21%, 3rd 10%
Place 8-9 (in some tests 7-8-9) are actually worse than 10th.

Maximum visitors dont like to go for second page. so if ur website content is good and appears in first page you ll get more visitors.

A vast majority of users dont even go below the "fold" of the first page of SERPs, so this would put about 80% of all click-thrus in the top 3 or top 5 depending on if Google is showing one-search results.

You probably looking at 10% increase if you can make first page. If you are on first page within top 2-3 about 40% increase. Number 1 would give you at least 50% increase for the specific keyword.

I will say that 80 to 90% don't go to second page. Google algorithm is so good that people get their willing information by one or two clicks. They don't need to go for second or third page. Usually people go to Up to 5 clicks.

As far as concerned about Traffic, the traffic will increase by 10 to 15 times.

Its actually depends on the keyword itself,. make sure it has a huge of searches a month..
then reaching the number spot will surely bring a a tons of organic traffic,.
    good serp=good traffic
    90%= first page

It will sure help in more traffic if you are in the page 1 of search results....

many users are searching for relevant informations especially if the question they are asking is answered...
