Hi,i plan to update the content in my site every 3 days because i heard that google loves regularly updated sites. However, my site is structured in the sense that when i have added new content to a section, the front page of my site will not reflect that. Does the regularly updated content rule applies to new internal pages? or google view my site as updated only when there is changes in the front page. Do you think i should give a summary at the front page everytime i add new internal pages? Thanks Guys
Every page has its individual identity, It can out perform the homepage if optimized well.. hence, yes the content refresh thing can actually help the inner pages as well..
If its not too much trouble, i would update the homepage with links and summaries of the new content on the subpages.
Frequent updates to your pages may increase the search engine crawl rate, but it won't increase your rankings. If your site doesn't need to change, don't change it just because you think the search engines will like it better. They won't.... Just build backlinks and focus on building organic IBLs. Build backlinks to your pages....Deep link it....
if you make an update on a page that google does not know of yet, you will need google to identify the page, either by linking to it from on of your pages that is already indexed, or by getting backlinks from other sites.
Updating a site isn't all about the content, you also need to update/add some links to some of your inner pages or the new ones..
You can simple just update your XML sitemap when you add new pages or content, just put a link to your sitemap on your homepage and make a standard robots.txt file.
Also don't forget that it's not just the content that counts, but the quality and relevance of the content as well. If I'm looking to buy a book about object oriented PHP 5 programming (for example), I'm not going to care too much if the available PHP books all cover procedural PHP 4 programming (again, for example). And if I were to find what I was looking for, if the quality of the book was down the tubes, I still wouldn't buy it since it wouldn't be any good. Your Web copy works the same way.
Updating the content of your site won't hurt at all but it won't help so much your rankings: you need to build backlinks.
Which you can't get unless you either engineer them (make other sites and then link to the first one) or have quality content. There is a reason why content is king afterall.
Change is good, and change on the homepage is even better. Best to update it regularly, but only with good quality content.
Not by themselves, they won't. But if the content is of a certain quality and is relevant to what other people want, someone will be bound to link to it. (Especially if you ask them nicely or happen to have content that is really authoratiative). As far as building the backlinks goes, that won't help you much if you don't have quality original content that people want to link to (unless you create some other sites and link to it that way, of course). And how would you know if the content on his site needs to be changed or not?
