Has anyone purchased a domain from yahoo?

I see that yahoo's domain registration is much cheaper than godaddy or other services. I wonder if it's any worse, any catches? Has anyone had experience purchasing a domain name from them?

yahoo goes for 2.99 ....I'm wondering if anyone has used their service before and what they think of it.

 

I have purchased a number of domains through yahoo. I like the domain control panel. Here is the catch....When the domain comes up for renewal it will be at 9.95 and they will automatically renew the domain unless you cancel the service. Hope that helps

 

A lot of people advise to purchase domains only from them if you're not planning to transfer out the domain ever.

 

by transfer do you mean by switching server? or sending to another account?

 

Either... It is difficult to transfer the domain out of yahoo and or to transfer it to another members account - I am not even sure if they do that.

Their nameservers can take a while to update and they do not allow custom name servers.

I have 2 domains hosted with them... the rest are with godaddy.

Yahoo is cheapest at this moment with NO string attached. Godaddy makes you buy hosting along with domain to get that deal.

Go for yahoo. By the way, if you want private registrations, 1and1 has domain+private reg for 5.99$, thats one good deal as well.

 

Has anyone had problems picking up multiple domains via Yahoo now? The last time they had this $2.99 offer I picked up 5 domains, but this time around it says "discount only valid for new customers".

So I used a different credit card and it worked for the 1st domain, but once I tried to get #2 they said "discount only valid for new customers". DRAT!

Anyone else on this?

 

I just purchased a domain through Yahoo about five minutes before I found this thread. Attempted to buy an additional one but recieved a notice that the 2.99 offer was only good for first time customers...

Yepp, but thats not too difficult to come around and buy other domain just use other yahoo id or cc info...whatever works

A different Yahoo! ID makes no difference. It is based on CC info. I only have 2 cards, so I am pretty limited. Any other ideas anyone?

ouch, so that means renewalls are full price? I might go with godaddy and or others.

 

The two domains I got from them last time they had this deal I registered for 5 years so the renewal price does not matter to me until then... and by then hopefully the sites will be making $$$ per month.

But yes if you are only wanting to register it for one year or want to run your own name servers or easy transfer to another registrar then go with godaddy or one of the other providers out there.
