Recently I started noticing that more and more of my Family Guy clip favorites were beginning to disappear off YouTube. Now ALL of my FG favs show: [video unavailable] I'm all for protecting © and all that crap but I think removing clips of FG is total BS ...anyone else? How does having clips of the show hurt the series If anything I think more people would see the clips, and want to own the entire episodes!!
for one, it takes viewer off the tv which would effect the network viewership rating. Since viewership rating is important to any free to air network. Plus, most of the network would complain, why they have to buy the series when ppl can just watch it online which brings down the price each network has to pay for the series in the near future. IMO, that why they try to restrict it. Though they can try, they are other places where you can watch it.
i would think that having clips of a great show like FG would help the shows popularity, rather than take it offline where ppl that might not know the show would never see it
Yes it will increase the episode popularity but will it translate to people switching off from youtube to their tv set's instead? With the net being everywhere, at work and home, it's easier to watch it online rather than on a tv sets plus you can view it anytime you want.
your logic is flawed IMO. how does watching a 2 minute clip take me away from the show???? if I see funny clips of a show, that makes me want to watch the entire episode on TV or DVD even more!!! yeah, if it was an entire episode then maybe but that's not what I am talking about!! exactly! someone who is in tune with what I was talking about no! like I said, 30 second clips does not act as a suitable replacement for the entire episode on Comedy Central, Fox, or DVD!!
hmm, it's true that a 30 second clip won't harm but the fact that you watch an entire episode off youtube, that's when the problem is. Just the same goes with in the music industry, why would people want to buy a CD when they can just download it.
I agree timsdd, it is good publicity. As long as the clips weren't entire episodes, it was doing more help than harm. I'm more of a Futurama fan, though, so I don't really mind either way. Not that I ever look at Futurama videos online anyway . There's always a YouTube knock-off ready to host them in exchange for traffic!
madness??? MADNESS!!!...the 300 spoof that might not be on YT anymore I'm not for entire episodes, we agree on that, it would be wrong. Music is a whole different thing I think but yeah, sorta the same principle. Yeah, I guess I'll have to get my fix somewhere else!
deleting the clips is stupid, nothing has gotten more people interested in the show than the famous "who wants clam chowder?" clip
you know while I am quite , I honestly do not remember that one! I'd ask you to post a clip but oh wait NM
Have seasons 1-6 on DVD anyway, and never watch anything on YouTube, there are other sites though similar to YouTube that i am sure they have not been removed from.
YouTube put a new filter which automatically blocks copyrighted videos from being uploaded and tv-links.co.uk was removed. http://business.guardian.co.uk/story/0,,2195407,00.html
Yeah, having the same problem with soccer highlights. Now I need to download files from rapidshare to view the match highlights. Btw, I downloaded some of the better family guy clips/compilations from youtube a long time ago, and they're still on me HDD, so if someone knows a decent videosharing website which are not copyright arses like youtube, then tell me of it and I'll upload them.
**so do I but that doesn't help me in regards to my beef thanks for the link, at some point I will click it. I suppose something like that was just a matter of time anyway
I think it's a poor move on Fox's part. They don't lose DVD sales or ratings because of those clips, because people like to watch the full episodes and not just a 2 minute clip. The clips are a great way to gain new fans of the show. I'm sure if I looked at all of the away messages and profiles of my friends on instant messenger right now I could find at least 4 or 5 links to YouTube clips of Family Guy. That's what viral marketing is all about.
I agree. Bad for YT too since short FG clips were such a huge draw. someone on another forum mentioned ads...it's all about ads. Fox wants their ads to be shown along side the clips whereas Google... the only loser in this is the FG lovers IMO. no! nothing!! if you went and searched for FG clips right now you may find something but I bet it won't be there more than a week. I had 39 clips none exist today!
