Most new games are going to support XP 64-bit editions, so don't buy that excuse to upgrade!

If it is to be XP or Vista i'd chose XP all the way purely down to Vista's DRM.

I'm really trying hard to convert to Linux tho :)

    XP.

But XP had ( and still have) hardware drivers issues. when it first launched it was troublesome to upgrade your machine to new OS.

Vista on the other hand is breeze. dont have any hardware driver problems. Vista detected my seven year old modem that XP cries all the time for recognising it....

But overall I would rate XP better because vista is very heavy ...

XP not only had problems with securities but bugs and compatibility problems. More then Vista. And the main reason behind it is a lot of people had not upgraded to 98 or 2000 and finally when they did to XP they tried to bring their old hardware and software along.

Very true, but this can happen with any OS... they always have some bug or compatibility issue. Vista also has these problems they just arn't as bad on the side of drivers because most people used xp before vista.

I agree with you. Everyone who is upgrading to Vista is doing it from XP. People who upgraded to XP were doing so from 98 first edition and earlier. So of course there were more problems.

That is obvious because there is a bigger gap between 98 first and xp...and a smaller one between xp and vista

    @j_o
There was only a three-four year gap between XP (released approx. 2001 but not sure) and Windows 98, and there was a five year gap between Vista and XP...don't know where u learned math...

Although there was a bigger gap Service Pack 1 and 2 bridged it. And thus it was like releasing a half OS between XP and Vista. So more drivers work with Vista then did with XP. I know it cause I remember in 2003 when I upgraded to XP and almost 80% of my software went blank. I had to switch back to 98. With XP all my old software even those made for Windows 95 work perfectly.

2 months ago i got my newest laptop ( ferrari 5000 ) with vista preinstalled - even the initial install/boot was a disaster - the next day same ... with various error messages like incomplete boot, file system damaged/check, no wireless connection, no bluetooth-mouse connection, etc
after about 24 hrs i deleted entire vista and have one OS only installed = openSuSE Linux.

I love vista where it is now - in cyberheaven!

on my secondary laptop ( ferrari 4000 ) i run XP as second OS besides Linux.

An isolated case. If this was the norm the blogs would have been alive with it.

I have Vista Ultimate on my laptop. It runs perfect, haven't had any problems at all. Now, in the IT dept we upgaded our PCs to Vista to see how it would act on a domain and it was awful, very slowwww, and we threw Office 2007 and it was absolutely terrible. I wouldn't put Vista on a domain until a Service pack came out.

Although I'm running XP, if I had a choice to run OS X on my PC i would seriously consider it. I would never touch Vista until I hear enough positive comments to counter my extremely negative experience with that OS.
