I personally think Canada, since we have a group 13 very well trainned men, and we have provided them quailty sticks with sharp edges made of cedar. They continued to train intensely day and night, so I believe in 10 years they will be feared by many, and be a force to be wrecken with.
And a spell checker might make it to Canada sometime this decade! USA will always be on top. Our army is still as big as China's current statistics, however sure, they may have a bigger reserve. It'll be, in order: U.S. Putin's Russia (by sheer number of Soviet nukes) China (Manpower alone) India (they control much of our strategic tech operations... and also have 1.2 BILLION people) The European Union (Economically) Brazil (With an optimistic view) I'm just saying by overall power, not by "who would be at war". I dare say, if there was a world war, there wouldn't be much left to declare itself winner.
Agreed, If WW3 happened with nukes. Everything would just be wiped out. Even if people survive the nuclear blast some how, You still got to deal with the nuclear winter, which takes decades to clear.
WW3 isn't going to happen anytime soon.. Equation of next super power solely depends on What shape US takes in next 10 Years. My Guess is - 1. US 2. Russia 3. Entire Eu Union 4 and 5. China, India and Israel Middle eastern Countries like Iran, Saudi Arabia etc etc can never become super powers as they heavily depend on export of Oil for Economical progress and Other nations for technological progress.
People worry about them because a lot of crazy people come from those countries. It's another thing Ron Paul doesn't get. It's nice to be self sufficient but you have to ensure you will not be dependent on crazy people ever again. If I have two cookies and you have two cookies and you offer to let me eat yours for a price, I have bargaining power at first since I could just eat the ones I have. But, if I eat all my cookies first and then realize I absolutely must have another I'm completely at your mercy to get another one. So, it's better to use your bargaining power to reduce the price of the other guy's resources until they are depleted before you make full use of your own. That way they run out first and then they are dependent on you. Also, if you just refuse the resources of others you will run out of your own resources much quicker. Ron Paul is playing chicken with science by trying to stop using foreign oil just because we don't like those people. Chances are, we'll run out of oil before we find a way to never need it again. And that's why people fear them. They have the most oil anywhere. As soon as someone must get their oil from them, they are at the mercy of the crazy people. Ron Paul's ideas will make that a reality for the US a lot sooner than anyone would like. He's thinking way too short term.

The thing is it's not the super powers that are threat. US and Russia have enough nuke to destroy *even* the Jupiter, but when the last time you heard either Russia or US to threaten each other to wipe off the map? Super Powers wouldn't destroy the world, because what good is being super power of the world when there is no world? But that can't be said about a bunch of crazy terrorists and their masters who are willing to die and kill (even civilians) for some *viriginous* cause....
