    I disagree

Analytics monitors much much more than Awstats, and Analytics also gives you some extremely good comparison reports, goal conversions, etc. that Awstats doesn't hold a candle to

Awstats is good reporting software, but it doesn't compare to Analytics

I'm also a big fan of Google Analytics (I'm sure there are better paid tools available, but it's done everything I've ever needed for free)

I have both AW and analytics, they give me different info. AWstats are emailed to me weekly so I use that more. What AW stats doesn't show is how many do whatever action you are wanting them to do like click on a certain link. Or use one of Crazy Egg's Heat Maps.

I use google analytics and clickaider.com for tracking clicks on my site (hopefully to avoid click fraud with it). And they work just fine with me. Occasionally i check the feedburner.com pro stats (these are updated quicker).

    analytics + log analyzer

aw for linux server, nihuo for windows desktop pc

google analytics is wonderful, but I need log analyzer tell me some different information ( e.g. spider, download file ). And with powerful filter function of log analyzer, many interesting information can be dug out from log file.

Statcounter, Google Analytics or Awstats are all very good. I like Google Analytics better because it is free and gives detailed information on traffic.

I like AXS Visitor Tracking because it's easy to install and updates in real time.

Google Analytics is good but you have to wait on the data 24 hours.

Considering the fact that you have your website's log files, why not get a traffic analyzer program which looks at those logs.

A simple method would be to download the latest log files and add the data into a folder which is used by the program. It will tell you what Google Analytics does and more (as analytics does not work when javascript is switched off in the browser and does not cover bot traffic).

One of the ones I have used is called WebLog Expert . They do have a Lite Version as well which is free. The traffic analysis does everything and more than what Google Analytics does and more including geo location analysis down to city/suburb level, how users got to the site, how they moved through the pages, how long they stayed on pages etc etc etc.

There are other such tools out there. In truth, you will find Google Analytics lacking when you use software such as this.

    Hello
I use analytics, and awstats. I also try this one http://www.accscripts.com/accstatistics.html . It's nice because you see the exact link of referrer, but if you have a heavy site, is like mint, it became useless because of intensive use of mysql.

Statcounter is good but the free version only lets you log 500 page views before you have to reset the log. I might try Google Analytics but I here that it doesn't have live reporting stats...can someone confirm this?

We are using Mint over at WPCandy.com
It's the most accurate traffic analysis we've tried.
Because the site is run by WordPress we tried varies plugins and they never worked.

    Go for Mint

I've decided that I like bbclone on wordpress, upload bbclone to my host, added a little bit of php clone in one place in the code, working great. Now to install it on my other blogs. I had been using aw stats on another host, moving to one without it, they said I could install aw, but bbclone seems to be a better option.
