Nice setup iatbm. I'm hoping to have something similar one day - except for the piggy of course. There's nothing better than eating your own food that you can trace back to its roots (literally!).

You make grape juice? I hope you make some wine/grappa too :)

Dirty porks ? Why you think that porks are dirty ?

For example. Muslims don't eat pork not because they are dirty. Pigs are one of the most clean animals. It is a man who made them dirty keeping them in DIRT.

Now let's get back to muslims and pork. They stopped eating pork not because they are dirty or holy or I don't know what else. They stopped eating it because they realized when they eat pork they cannot move so fast and fight wars so they started eating lamb because it is much lighter. Simply as that. Today it is kind of "known" that they are dirty and muslims don't eat it. But the cause for this is somewhere else ....

I'm guessing that must be really satisfying work....that's one of the things I want to do someday - own a farm that is.

It is. Working on land is satisfying and relaxing !
The real relaxation you get when you are working with bees. Those little creatures are interesting to watch and we can learn a lot from them.
Webmastering and farming is I think the best combination you can find :D

    Congrats!

Hope you didn't put that pig through any misery? That's the worst thing about eating meat you don't know the origins of...

The way the animal was kept and killed. Some have a terrible life (sure yours didn't) and are equally as barbaric when it comes to their death.

The death was quick with a pistol for killing pigs and knife on the neck he shakes for couple of seconds and he is done.... there is no way you can kill an animal so it doesn't suffer at least a bit sadly though....

This is your pig you raised ? Was there any emotional attachment? Ive hunted many times, shot a couple deer, but never killed an animal i saw on a regular basis. Looks like it was a decent size too. I would love some sausage. Better yet, I think ill have Ham steak for dinner tonight.

When I was a kid I remember they used to stab the pig in the neck and sometimes he got away and started running through the yard and making a bloody mess everywhere. It was pretty shocking the first time I saw that. I was about 6-7.

sb1234 : no emotional attachments here. This is no pet. I felt bad when a car killed my cat though. I also feel sorry for bee if she is killed or there is something wrong with my bees. Strange ... I don't feel the same for pigs. Small ones are cute though ;)

Bebicul yas that was the way we did years ago. Now it is pistol and it is all over in couple of seconds. It is interesting that we cut throat, head of chickens still today ( strange huh )
