Just so you know, Danny uses industry buzz (such as the activity in these posts) for his information source. :p

He cites 2 sources as evidence that the PageRank is changing, and one of those sources (on Sphinn) states "according to a conversation going on in DigitalPoint forums".

I personally still have not seen any shifts, but who knows. Andy Beard reported a penalty of -1 PR, he's pretty reliable afaik. But if that is the case, then this is more of a restructuring, where they manually tweak PageRank as punishment, rather than an actual PR update.

Just so you know, Danny Sullivan doesn't need to rely on DP threads for his information. He's been around a long time and is well known by people both outside and inside Google. And yes, he probably does have a "ping" to Google employees such as Matt Cutts.

I don't believe their have really been any official pagerank updates. Just manual penalizations to those selling links.

Oh, I offered this tip on 301 redirects for Directory Owners to avoid such canonicalization problems, more aimed at avoiding duplicate content though. This .httaccess snipplet could be applied to any site using apache.

That pretty much has nothing to do with what you quoted, but ok. :)

Actually, it does. However, I've added a bit more of your original post if it helps make it easier for you to understand. :)

Well, yes I saw this strange evaluation (PR -1) for a blog during a scan two days ago and thought, the reason might be a change/update on Google.
Never saw that before and I am working for more than a decade in the industry.

So you just have trouble following the conversations then? That's fine, no one is demanding that you do, but if you can't then you should perhaps just sit back and not worry about it.

NetMidWest stated that he doubted the posts here, I was pointing out that the posts here were one of the things Danny cited as a reference. I know, more than one post at a time can be tough to understand. It's a lot of data to absorb, especially for someone like you. Don't worry about it too much though. None of this actually affects you or your sites.

You know what's ironic? I'm actually starting to get more search traffic from Yahoo now. If this trend continues we may not have to waste our time hand wringing about pageranks from Google anymore. God bless competition. :D

Yahoo is still way too far behind, it needs lots of catching with Google, before we can even think moving away from G.

This applies for only some keywords. Yahoo sends more traffic for certain keywords.

Only some? I guess Google sends traffic for most of the keywords.

That's possibly because MSN is spamming our sites with fake referrers, and has been for a few months now. They might have just noticed you recently and are ramping it up:

    http://www.webmasterworld.com/msn_microsoft_search/3424476.htm

I would check your raw traffic logs to see what actual phrases it says the traffic is coming from Live for, then check to see if you really do rank for them all.

Yes i'll vouch for that, when they are sending referers for terms like "wordpress" and "internet" and i'm not likely to be in the top 500 results it's a bit unlikely i'm getting several hits a day for such keywords.

Pretty low tactic, i hoped they would be above that but obviously not.

Same here. Getting these fake visitors for estate, home, houses, etc. I get very little legit traffic from them. FYI, all my "live.com" legit traffic is showing as MSN Search in my logs. Anything "live.com" is strictly from their crazy bot.
