Which tool did you usually use to design website?

I am not familiar with web design, so i do not know which one is suitable to desig n a website. I heard that my friends usually use photoshop to design a website and use dreamweaver to write web. I really do not know the whole process of making website. It is totally different with desktop programming. Could you help me to understand it?

I use Notepad++. Though I have used Dreamweaver.

I use notepad for the HTML/CSS/PHP/ASP code, and psp7 for the images... then once the site becomes profitable, I get some DP guys to design better images...

Photoshop for designing and dreamweaver for layout and coding.
I sometimes use other tools for design like Corel or Flash.

You can first learn html, php and mysql from websites like w3schools
Then learn photoshop ,etc from websites like oktutorial.com
however photoshop is not free, you can try gimp if you are looking something which is available for free.

I use a mix of Dreamweaver and Notepad (or the in built text editor in FlashFXP) for the Web design, layout design and the graphics I leave to Photoshop or Illustrator :)

I use the text editor of HTML-Kit or Notepad to write all Markup (HTML, XHTML, XML), CSS, RDF, PHP, JavaScript. I currently test all of my pages in MSIE 6.x, MSIE 7.x, Firefox 2.x, Opera 9.x, Mozilla 2.x & Safari graphical Browsers at 1280X1024, 1024x768, 800x600 resolutions and small screen rendering mode for interoperability and disable Images, Styles (CSS) and Page Colors after upload to check Web Content Accessibility (all via the Firefox Web Developer Toolbar).
