So i am at the point now of selecting the keywords that are going to be optimal for my business. Now i have 2 options 1. Select Less competative keywords Pro: Easier to optimise Con: Less searches, less visitors 2. Select Highly competative keywords Pro: More searches more visitors Cons: Harder to optimise What should I do? Keyword Tools: Is there a tool where i can identify average searches carried out? I mean lets take the keyword phrase: 'Flights to Australia' is there somewhere that records approximately the number of search engine searches carried out for that keyphase per month? Also is that a tool that would make recommendations to related key phrases, which would be something like 2cheap flights to australia' or bargain flights to australia etc etc. No they may seem like totally dumb questions to some of you, but as a relative newbie to SEO, i tend to ask alot of dumb questions However I like by the saying: "There is only one stupid question, and that is a question you dont ask!" ie, your stupid not to ask questions if you dont know something! Thanks
Since your saying you are new at SEO I would start with long tail keywords as they will be easier to rank for, and until you get the experience to rank for short tail with plenty of competition it will make you more money while your learning to tricks of the trade to building the links fast for the harder stuff. You can still get plenty of traffic and make plenty of money with long tail bty… checkout this post on this blog I was reading the other day: http://dinkstyle.com/keyword-generator-strikes-gold-overnight/ to see how many people including myself are using Wordze to make lots of money just running the long tail keywords.
I also think you should start with the long tail. it takes time and experience, to get rated in the short tail/
