The Do's and Dont's of SEO (the original)

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by kelouba, Oct 4, 2007.

I thought I would re post these Do's and Dont's as they seemed to be of use to some people new to SEO.

The original thread was rightly removed by the moderators as the poster had stolen the content from my site, and he was trying to pass it off as his own. He has since been banned by the moderators.

To avoid any confusion the original article can be viewed here. http://www.webordead.com/2007/06/dos-and-donts-of-seo.html

    First The Dont's

Don't use frames on your website.

Don't use homepage or index for the title tag of your website.

Don't overuse your keywords in your meta tags.

Don't overuse your keywords on your page.

Don't hide text in your page.

Don't pay someone to submit your site to search engines.

Don't buy links from high page rank sites.

Don't participate in reciprocal link exchanges.

Don't try to do your own SEO if you do not have a clue what you are doing.

Don't link to spammy sites or unrelated sites.

Don't call your links page LINKS, call it Resources.

    Don't overuse Google ads.

Don't use someone elses content. :)

Don't create pages with little or no content on.

Don't fill your site with links to affiliate programs you participate in.

    Now The Do's

Do use CSS to build your site.

    Do use meta tags.

Do use H1 and H2 tags for on page SEO.

Do have a good descriptive title to all of your pages.

Do link all of your pages back to your homepage.

    Do have a site map.

Do try to get fresh original content for your site.

    Do update your site regularly.

Do have a blog about your site.

Do submit your sites to relevant directories.

Do write articles and submit them to article directories.

Do write press releases and submit them to press release sites.

Do submit your site to social bookmarking sites.

Do try to get quality back links from relevant sites.

Do use anchor text in your backlinks.

Do name your images on your site.

Do check your site for broken links.

    Do link to quality sites.

If anyone has any more tips please feel free to post them here. If anyone needs clarification/explanation of any of the tips please post here and I will clarify/explain for you.

    ..but don't overdo it!:)

Any recommendations on lessons, sites or other teaching aides for beginners to SEO? My brother develops websites and thinks I should begin to assist him, particularly with SEO's.

    TIA

That's the Default Do's and Dont's Of SEO. But if you are really SEO Specialist you don't have to rely on Old SEO Myth. You have to search and test Different kinds of SEO techniques. IMO:D

Are you talking about making a blog that talks about your own website?

The benefit of having a blog is fresh unique content that is relevant to your business. This will help you in a number of ways. It will make your site more interesting to your visitors. It will also get you more respect with Google, as the more fresh unique content your blog has, the more authority your site will be given by Google. Google loves authority sites and generally ranks them higher in its search results.

Google does not like sites that buy links to increase their page rank.

Ask yourself this. If you have a page rank 0 site and you buy a link from a page rank 7 or 8 site, how does that look? Exactly, it looks like you have bought the link to increase your pr. Google is actively asking people to report sites that buy and sell links so it can penalize them.

If you read this article it will tell you more about what Matt Cutts has to say about it. http://www.webordead.com/2007/05/google-and-paid-links.html

What happens though if a pr8 was to link to you though, through your own ssite having good content related to them, how would google know if it was bought or not, if you see my point.
